    Battlefield 2: Singleplayer -> Multiplayer Server aka Multiplayer Botserver

    hi folks!
    i guess you all know how to get bots to multiplayer...
    so my idea was to sniff the package a normal multiplayer server sends out;
    status : DONE! (sniffing ALL data on my computer now)
    next step would be sending this "fake" data when you run a single-player game
    so what does it do?
    it sends the broadcast that a bf2 server is running and points to the singleplayer-server;
    ppl can join without restarting lan game etc...

    anyone willed to help?

    greets

      Don't get me wrong mate, i'm NOT flaming you, I just don't understand the reason behind it. There are thousands of servers, why go to all that trouble?

        Sounds like he wants to farm bots for points.

          But surely it wouldn't be ranked, so whats the point?

            afaik you do NOT get points in singleplayer-games!
            so if you join a singleplayer-game you will definitve NOT get any points.
            why i want to do it:
            1) no large download or installed MOD (700mb+)
            2) play with friends versus computer (OFFLINE without internet access in lan!)
            3) a 2player game is plain BORING without more players/bots

            guess you get my point now
            further... not all ppl got fast internet connection (or low ping rate!)
            so online servers are not reachable for everybody :cry:
            @MyIS]IndianScout i think i already checked it but ill have a look again

            thanks

              You will not be able to setup a Ranked Server this way. (Unless that's not your intent. You haven't made that clear)
              Only certified 'Partners' of EA can Host Ranked Servers.
              Even if it's in Multi Player Mode, if it's setup for Bots it will not "enable" ranking.
              I think you just need to find a close server that will give you better pings or Call you ISP and bitch at them for their horrible connection. Unless you're on dial-up then you're screwed. :wall:

                nah, ranked server with bots is not my aim.
                my isp is somehow strange as i got 3mbit down| 384kbit up
                but i have lousy ping rates (hope this gets better soon)
                cable modem

                  3 down...that's crazy. Your connection should be blazin' do dslreports speedtest to make sure you're getting the advertised rates

                    ^^^I agree.
                    Is that the advertised speed? If so then it's probably 3 down on a good day.
                    Cable or DSL?

                        Not everyone considers points to be the ultimate goal of playing BF2.

                        You haven't made it clear if you know about the simple solution for Co-op: just start a SP game and have others join by ip. No mods needed. The main advantages of using a dedicated server over this would be that the server takes part of the load off of the "server" SP PC, doesn't need good video, and that you have more configuration options I believe.

                          well join ip;
                          there is a button for it in mutiplayer, but it does not show up a window to enter an ip
                          other way would be the console, which only shows up here, when i am already in a game (which means you have to load twice, which is really nasty - and LONG)

                          will check dslreports , but i am not sure if i can play (with my mate) on a server with only one ip-adress and 2 computers (even when we have two valid cd-keys)

                          ok i did a test while using uTorrent (~30kb upload)

                          dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-04-21 06:24:27 EST:
                          1319 / 235
                          Your download speed : 1319 kbps or 164.9 KB/sec.

                          Your upload speed : 235 kbps or 29.4 KB/sec.

                          guess thats quite ok (download is slower due loads of upload)
                          will do a ping-test too if available

                            If you mean under 'join local' that's possible; that was only added in a patch and I've never used it. If you have an internet connection at all then you can use an online account which means you can use the 'join ip' under the 'join internet' tab. The other option if you have no internet at all would be to:
                            Start a local server
                            Clients go to 'join local' and see the server in the browser but don't join
                            Stop the server and start an SP game on that PC
                            Clients can now join through the browser.

                            'server' will continue to show up in the browser even when you start new maps.
