    To help with bombing

I wanted to make these a long time ago. The clues are in the text so read them carefully. I didnt have a screen for every situation and I cant make them at the moment either.

Basically Im showing how to bomb without making a climb in order to perform a dive-bombing maneuver.

Theres the horizontal flight bombing, and bombing when youre descending at a small angle. Both of these fit new pilots very well, if not the best.

Also, I was using a marker to mark 3 lines on my screen on the HUD lines, and you can see how, in the first pic. It makes bombing more of a visual task, and makes it extremely simple and easy, again, good for a new pilot.

This isnt helping experienced guys, because most of us already time our drops and have our own tips and tricks.

First error- last pic, it should be "horizontal", not "vertical". Sorry.

Also, note that the screenshots are the same, but the angle of attack which they describe is different. One is for totally vertical flight, another describes descend at a small angle.

Hm... this is cool; I was never too good with the jet, I suppose this gives me a chance; but in any case... I just want to ask:

You seem to be hinting at the fact that the bombs will carry a corresponding trajectory to how fast the jet is travelling, right? Then at 600KpH, you're telling us that the bombs are most likely going to hit whatever is on the bombing reticle arc? (the curved line under the targetting reticle/crosshair).

Just want to get it clear... also; will the trajectory change if your jet is flying towards the bombing target at a different angle? (i.e: if you fly straight down to the target 'vertically', will the bombs come down vertically 'like arty shells' as well?) just need to clarify on that; even though you may have mentioned it already- it would need a little more explaining, if you can.
Thanks nonetheless; I might actually take that un-used jet someday if I actually knew how to use it :P

Thats correct, bombs trajectory is directly affected by jets speed and angle of descent.

The 600 KPH, horizontal flight drop is a tip from someone else, I just remembered it. I cant give any credit due to not remembering the name. Anyway. At 600, you aim with the vertical stripe part just below the curved line

Before I answer to the other parts of the post I clarify something.

The steeper the angle of attack, the more you have to shift the aiming towards the central reticle, which is the little ring, or cross in the middle of the HUD.

Since maximum cruise speed drops (around 900 KPH) are most common, I concentrated on drops at that speed, with two simpliest approaches.

Just want to get it clear... also; will the trajectory change if your jet is flying towards the bombing target at a different angle? (i.e: if you fly straight down to the target 'vertically', will the bombs come down vertically 'like arty shells' as well?)
Absolutely. Drop is directly influenced by the speed and approach angle.

One more thing, which is influenced by approach angle the most. The grouping of the bombs. How far from the first will the second one land.

      I classify bombing into 2 catrgories- Anti-infantry and anti-armor.
With anti-infantry drop you want to get the grouping as wide as possible, so you have to choose horizontal approach.
With anti-armor the angle should be greater in order for the bombs to drop as close together as possible.

As for how to aim at "divebombing", you might want to get the target as close to the central reticle as possible, but still keeping it just under it. You never dive at 90 degree angle.

just need to clarify on that; even though you may have mentioned it already- it would need a little more explaining, if you can.
Thanks nonetheless; I might actually take that un-used jet someday if I actually knew how to use it :P
No problems. I might set some screens up later with the drop off time and a view backwards where the bombs dropped.

Thats a great help, thanks; I'll be starting up BF2 on a LAN map for some practice I reckon .

Ah... something about the jet that I want to ask about: Is it possible to 'lock' the throttle? (as in; keep a constant speed?) like the helo- if you let go of the forward key, it will hover and keep its 'velocity'.

So if I had the jet flying at 600Kph, and let go of the forward key, will it stay flying at 600Kph? or will the speed drop because I'm not holding down the forward key?

I don't know how I do it, it's a 6th sense that I developed in BF1942, I always know excactly when to drop the bombs...

That is SOOOOOO bloody helpful :p can I have a 6th sense sense too? please? maybe you can teach me how to get a 6th sense! :|:

Well I got a mind copying device somewhere down in my garage, I'll see if it still works.

                  Hello,
I begin to fly but I think that you'd better use a joystick instead of keyboard to fly... My 2cts.

I can only be glad that you do. Notice the ticket rate on those pics, obvious hints- "wanna practice? Dont ruin others game!"

Hmm. First, 600 isnt a magic figure. "Around" 600 shouldnt be too hard to keep by tapping the key occasionally.

Secondly, I use a joystick + KB combo. I set the throttle on the joystick to my default speed. (900 when engaging MiG or J-10) I also have markings on the joystick to help me to set the throttle as fast as possible.

                    I have 900, 600, 400, 0 for jet and H (hover) for the chopper.

You can set the speed on your joystick aswell. However, if youre with a mouse and KB, its probably easier for you to fly at maximum cruise speed (without afterburner) and drop the bombs at 900.

So if I had the jet flying at 600Kph, and let go of the forward key, will it stay flying at 600Kph? or will the speed drop because I'm not holding down the forward key?
                    Drop to 0 I think.

                    EDIT:
I started with Mouse+KB, moved to KB+KB and then to Joystick+KB. If theres anything you want to know, ask.

First what I noticed- if you want to get the feel of the jet- practice those bombing runs. You will be surprised how fast youll learn hwo to fly.

That doesn't help too much... assume I'm going to use a keyboard... now... if I let go of the forward key... WILL I STAY THE SAME SPEED?

Groovy, well- I've got the flying bit alright- but I don't like to keep checking the speedo all the time. I can do tricks and out-maneouver other jets (weaving around the smoke-stacks in Dalian, and flying through the narrow bit of the cargo-loader in Dalian). I just don't get the bombing bit, and flying at a low constant speed. Most of the time, I try to fly over an airfield for repairs and re-supplies, I either go too slow and fall out of the sky, or go too fast and miss it altogether.

Throttle full speed ahead- break just a bit to keep around 900 and drop. Planes wont go over 1000 on cruise anyway. That is, if theres no afretburner involved or theres no prolongued leveled flight. You should be relatively OK with what Ive provided on the pics.

I rarely bomb at 600, if ever. Its 900 for me. Note that 900 as a number indicates my average cruise speed. I usually fly at full speed and the maneuvers conveniently keep my speed below 1000.

I just fly high, then down at a rather steep angle and drop both bombs right onto the roof of an unsuspecting APC, rather than dropping one bomb at a time while flying straight wich is harder to do and more prone to missing

Both bombs hit at the same time on the same spot, you can track your target easier, they don't actually see you coming.. It's my way of doing it
