Dude, look at my rank. Look at my unlocks. I'm not THAT good. I've played alot however, and I have every single unlock except the uh... engineer class i think because i dont play it much. Big whoop man. Rank doesn't mean squat. I'm living proof.

    On another note...
If you notice my most played class is a medic, over 100 hours i think. my job was keeping people alive or subsequently, saving people's lives. so yeah, my KDR is crap. so ppl will say i suck just off my stats, not my actual skill.

If you've ever played the CTF mode in BF1942, you'll remember that the scores were completely different than they were in Conquest mode. With a stat system, it's important that game modes are balanced for score like all others -- so there are definitely more important things on their table in my opinion.

I was always under the impression that the game mode option was really there for mods to make use of.
If they spent less time working on dumb additions like the booster packs, then we could have had our balanced and working gametypes already.. or god forbid: new maps :O:O:O

These are the 2 mods I'm personally waiting for. Given their previous track records for BFV and BF1942, there's no reason to think that they won't be released. There are plenty of other mods in existence right now that are in developement and will be released ... just as it was in BF1942 (even more actually, seeing as DICE hired Trauma Studios, developers of Desert Combat).

Speculating that the above 2 mods, among others, will not be released is easy. I assure you they will be though. FH has been in developement for a VERY long time now and all of that work will not be going to waste any time soon.

So what you're saying here is that if there was a fantastic new gameplay type added to BF2 that only scored you 50% of the points that conquest offers you wouldn't be interested? Sad. I got tired of points about 3 months into the game, and given the players deemed the best are the ones with waaaay too much free time on their hands its pointless trying to chase them.
You took what I said out of context. I specifically mentioned that the stat system was interesting to me not for the top players, but for the keeping track of my own progress. If I spend an entire year playing the game, I'm more than excited about a way to track all of the details of how I've been playing.

Further, it allows the developers of the game (and modders, actually) to keep track of trends. They're going to expand on this in BF2142 to have the stats record when and where people were actually killed. That way, they'll monitor the trends in maps and adjust accordingly.

Do I want a new and exciting game mode? Sure! However, I think that creating a game mode is not simple. Over the past 10 years in gaming we have seen very few changes in game modes (DM, TDM, FFA, CTF and a few others), so asking the developers of BF2 to conceptualize a new game mode and potentially ruin the great idea of a stat system to 'see what happens' doesn't make sense to me.

Instead, let the modders at it .. and they already have. Play the Project Reality minimod which as a cult following right now. They were the first to implement the AAS (Advance And Secure) game mode which is freakin awesome. I even started a poll to see how many people would want to see it in vanilla just for kicks.

Spetsnaz stated that because mods aren't being played and ranked servers are, then the ranked conquest gametype is obviously popular. My response to that is that there aren't any mods of significance released yet.
There aren't. But there will be. BF2 is not the type of game that works with diverse game modes, it's something that requires -alot- of testing and -alot- of balancing, which I think is better left to the modders. There are all sorts of factors at work here man.

If you've ever tried CTF for DC, you'll see exactly what I mean. It used to be completely unbalanced and didn't feel like you were playing DC at all. The entire feel of the game was lost. CTF only grew in popularity after everyone got bored of playing Conquest for DC and even then there were only a handful of servers running it. TDM and DM simply aren't BF at all. AAS is still a variation of Conquest. Objective Based maps mean that alot of the core code needs to be changed, as the game is not focused around that.

DICE can't release a game mode just to release it. It has be well balanced and well tested and if half way through testing they come to find out that the game mode is simply impossible to implement and fit the game's style, they'll have to dump it and a whole chunk of time would be lost.

He also stated that the ranking system to him is more alluring than new game modes, to which I responded as being a sad reason to play:ranking over game variety.
I'll be the one to dictate what's sad for my life and what isn't, thank you. You also took what I said completely out of context there.

I always lurk the forums and other notorious websites to see what's the latest of the latest. Anyway, my point is I'm sure it will be a decent game but have you all forgot the most importatnt feature that BF2 STILL hasn't received?

          MORE GAMETYPES!

I've been playing alot of COD2 (COD series will always be my personal favorite), and ya know, they must have just under 10 different gametypes. Why is it that EA/DICE refuses to give us something else? I'm sure some of you would like to do a little DM or TDM everynow and then, or even a CS/SD type gamestyle.

Is it just me or is there anyone else here who would also think this would not only make the game a little more fun, but also offer a refreshing change to the scene and satisfy us just a little while longer.

Thanks for your time reading this.
said it before n i will say it again , ROLL on the mods . BF2 as it is is a dead donkey for me , sooooo sick of the same .

I don't think he was hassling you, dude. I too think its a sad reason to play for points, at the sacrifice of game variety.

A totally neutral statement from us both.

No, it means you have too much time on your hands. Let me put it this way:

Say we have 2 players, we'll call them player A and player B.

Player A has 50 000 points, is a sergeant major, and has spent over 1000 hours playing the game and plays on average 6 hours a day

Player B has about 10 000 points, but a higher K ratio, better accuracy, better win:loss ratio, and a decent balance of time spent in different kits/vehicles/maps than player A, and has about 100 hours in the game.

Who's the better player? Ranks mean shi t, if I had the time to waste on this game I could be a 2nd Lieutenant or whatever. I'd actually prefer them to scrap the "total points" number and instead aggregate other figures more relative to skill than time spent such as flag capping/team work/accuracy/K ratio and dish out ranks based on that. A decidedly average player could attain a high rank if they want to play 10 hours a day.

So then what did you mean with your comment that those with high ranks are good players?

Re: All this talk about 2142...

I think the statement about ranks and points being taken into consideration must be true. They left that out for the modders. And what do we know about mods?

                          They're all unranked.

I don't know if they intended this but they've definitly split the community. I still want points, but since CTF wasn't implemented I will never raise in rank as long as I play mods. I don't really care about the points per say, but I'd like to have all the weapons that comes as a consequence. That takes a lot of time to rack up points for. So Dice sort of inadvertedly killed the market for early mods just after release. It's these days we're looking at people having atleast a few extra rifles in their sortiment and they might find the attraction to try different mods. If they're really smart you'll see the conspiracy in this, which is making room for their own addons. I'll leave that worry for the guys with tinfoil hats though.

                          Edit, grammatical correction.
