    All this talk about 2142...

I got to thinking, I haven't played BF2 in 4 months or so. I just recently came back after I read the recent patch notes, but I haven't exactly been in the dark either. I always lurk the forums and other notorious websites to see what's the latest of the latest. Anyway, my point is I'm sure it will be a decent game but have you all forgot the most importatnt feature that BF2 STILL hasn't received?

    MORE GAMETYPES!

I've been playing alot of COD2 (COD series will always be my personal favorite), and ya know, they must have just under 10 different gametypes. Why is it that EA/DICE refuses to give us something else? I'm sure some of you would like to do a little DM or TDM everynow and then, or even a CS/SD type gamestyle.

Is it just me or is there anyone else here who would also think this would not only make the game a little more fun, but also offer a refreshing change to the scene and satisfy us just a little while longer.

Thanks for your time reading this.

BF2 receives very sub-par support. Isn't it obvious that "conquest" was the only feature they ever WANTED us to have?

Pretty much the same over here. I haven't played BF2 in a long time. I'm a huge BF fan, but I'm going to have to think it over before buying 2142. Conquest is great, but after playing that almost 1200 times and when the 'hype' dies...what is left? Do I really want to play against mech whores, a game with subpar support and the fact I'll need to buy a lame booster/XP for new weapons? :hmm:

Guys, just remember that a new game mode not only needs to be balanced for fairness, but also for points.

If you've ever played the CTF mode in BF1942, you'll remember that the scores were completely different than they were in Conquest mode. With a stat system, it's important that game modes are balanced for score like all others -- so there are definitely more important things on their table in my opinion.

I was always under the impression that the game mode option was really there for mods to make use of.

So what you're saying is BF2 was designed first and foremost for the points/ranking system, and gameplay options second.

Frankly I couldn't give a damn if there were better or more varied gameplay types that earnt me less points. Do DICE think that their fan base will desert if they play a fun, yet low scoring gametype?

For the same reason that a lot of people will only play on ranked servers, people may only play the highest scoring gametype. That's just my prediction, anyway.

My assumption is that they put alot of emphasis on the ranking system, yes.

In the end, what matters is the community response. If the majority of the community played on modded unranked servers, the ranking system would not be carried over into the next game. The reality is the contrary though, seeing as most players play on the ranked servers to earn ranks, unlocks and awards. Ranked servers are also more expensive, yet are more abundant. That says something too.

I personally prefer a ranking system to new game modes. I like tracking my stats and setting personal goals for myself. I'm not all that excited about the "top list", but that only adds a new dynamic for players that care about it. I just like to keep track of my own progress.

The game was designed from the ground up to be moddable, so the community will add all of the creative game modes that we need. BF2 will survive way beyond its time because of the great mods being released.

Well there's little point playing on unranked servers, why play the same game unranked (asides from tourney play)?

To put it in another way, some maps allow for higher scores than others, some classes and vehicles allow for higher points than others, yet all classes and maps still seem to be populated.

There aren't any mods of significance in existance at the moment (on the scale of a total conversion) to substantiate your claim. Most of the most popular online FPS' have been mods from memory (DC, CS, DOD, ET) Unless you know something I don't about a major mod being released for BF2.

So what you're saying here is that if there was a fantastic new gameplay type added to BF2 that only scored you 50% of the points that conquest offers you wouldn't be interested? Sad. I got tired of points about 3 months into the game, and given the players deemed the best are the ones with waaaay too much free time on their hands its pointless trying to chase them.

                        Which part?
Spetsnaz stated that because mods aren't being played and ranked servers are, then the ranked conquest gametype is obviously popular. My response to that is that there aren't any mods of significance released yet.

He also stated that the ranking system to him is more alluring than new game modes, to which I responded as being a sad reason to play:ranking over game variety.

unununium reckoned that given the popularity of ranked over unranked servers that a new game type that delivered less points simply wouldnt be popular. My point of view on that was if a new ranked game type was good enough, it would be played regardless of the amount of points you would receive from it.

                        Make sense?

Re: All this talk about 2142...

Well, the whole rank system is flawed...

Like someone mentioned above, the "best" or "top ranked" players are the ones who either have waaaaaaay too much time on their hands OR they have multiple people play the account 24/7 (happens in MMORPGs, wouldn't suprize me if they do it on an FPS such as this.) So ranks are somewhat pointless. I have been playing BF2 since the MP demo and I got tired of ranks very quickly.

The only reason I'm such a devoted Call of Duty/UO/COD2 fan is not because they don't have ranks, but because the gameplay never gets boring to me. Yet they have no ranks, no unlocks. Why do you suppose it's fun?

Who knows... but they made a good game without all that and there is PLENTY of competition and variety. Of course, maybe it's just me whos the COD fanboi, but again, this isn't the first. MoH series, WOLF and ET, CS/DOD/CSS - I mean, it goes on. Now I'm not saying BF2 is a ****ty game, quite the opposite. I really enjoy my time spent playing it....now...

How long did it take though for us to get the patches we not just demanded, but actually needed. How many features did they take out of BF2, only to bring back in an exciting new eye candy case called Special Forces?

I think I'm kind of going on and on here but those with enough sense will understand what I'm trying to say. I think the added gametypes would have definately spiced up the games overall replay value, and in turn, would have made for some very interesting matches.

So again, I don't nessessary think that adding more types would hinder the over exp of BF2.

Embrace change, do not rush it.

That should be their new slogan, lol - we can only dream...

Ranks arn't pointless. If you have a good rank doesent mean you have alot of time on yoru hands. Means your good.

The trick is to not compare your rank with other peoples. Just try to improve your own stats and be happy with what you've achieved in the amount of time you've played. Accounts with multiple players don't really ruin anything.
