I have 2.7 Ghz intel processer, 512 mb of ram and an ATI X1600 Pro. The problem is that I get lots of lag when I play on servers with more than 45 players. Usually the frame rate dips to below 15. Because of this, I only play on servers with less than 45 people, even though I run the game on all low, with 100% draw distance. The game has been laggy ever since I upgraded from the ATI 9250, That card could at least run the game with playable frames on 64 player servers (16-30 frames). The X1600 can barely make 20 frames on a large server. If anyone knows a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: The game runs so slowly
Well, if you've had a look around the forums, you would have seen tons of people getting performance gains from more RAM.Originally posted by Shade97The thing is that I could run this game fine when I had my old 9250, now that I've upgraded to the X1600, it laggs like crazy. I don't think the problem is completely focused on ram.Comment

Re: The game runs so slowly
i'd suggest you use ati's driver uninstall utility, and then reinstall your video drivers. 512mb ram is a little low, BUT you should still be getting playable framerates. frames/sec CERTAINLY shouldn't have gone DOWN after upgrading to an x1600 from a 9250
make sure that you didn't load any extra crap when you updated.
check your processes; close any that aren't necessary for your system and peripherals.
if all else fails (after you reinstall drivers), reinstall bf2 and repatch. you really should be getting a MUCH better gaming experience out of bf2 with the x1600.
good luckComment

Re: The game runs so slowly
my friend works for pc magazine and tells me that a if you put in a high end vid card with an "old" cpu (preety much anything lower than p4 or equivalent), you wont be getting as much performance as you'd expect...so i'd do what megawhompertoo said, and if that doesnt help, try the OMEGA drivers, its third party, but there are small tweaks for either a performance boost or quality, give it a try.Comment

Re: The game runs so slowly
Also, I've got this problem with crashing. The game ususally crashes on the main menu and loading times. If I stay on the main menu for a while, the game will most likely crash. It also sometimes crashes during gameplay. Whenever the game crashes, there is never an error message. Also, I get this different crash during gameplay when the screen freezes and the moniter says "out of range" H.Frequency 101 V.freqency 63 or someting.Comment

Re: The game runs so slowly
Damn, I decide to upgrade to 1 gb of ram. Strangely, the game runs even worse now. I'm getting like much less then 15 fps second on a 32 player server on all low 800x600. In firefights the fps drops to like 1 frame per second. Before, the game could run smoothly on servers with up to 45 players, now it can't even run on servers with 16. This is really messed up. The ram I bought is 100% compatable with my system. Any ideas?Comment

Re: The game runs so slowly
bs (no offense, tho', rly my friend). the ram will clock to whatever the lowest setting is.Originally posted by kewl e-manit is defenitely the RAM. try to get at least a gig or more and make sure the timings r close as possible.
you've got spyware
or
you've got heating issues
or
you've got hard drive issues
or
you've got xp issues
you've got new ram, a new video card...go ahead and install xp again.
it won't hurt, and it sure as he11 might help.
edit: what processes are running in the background? in the taskbar?Comment

Re: The game runs so slowly
I usually have about 34 background tasks running. When I close the user ones, I have like 24. The strange thing is that when I switched back to 512 mb of ram, the game went back to the same speed it ran before. I actually bought 1 gb of ram but I only have 2 slots so I could only intall 1 gb instead of 1.5 gb.Comment
