Duke was so cool. Graphics suxed, but who cared, it was so far out there and funny.

I think physics is the next revolution and interface. Right now, there is only a few steps to go to total realism. The next step is how we interact with the environment.

Also Physics need to impove. There was a major push in physics from BF42 to BF2. You can't compare the 2. BF2 has such a better "feeling."

well, if you play any game long enough it'll get repetative. that said, i too would like to see some different objectives in bf2, like attack and defend, king of the hill, capture the flag, etc... my guess is mods will take care of this. i've heard good things about the project reality mini-mod, so i downloaded it last night and will try it out soon. but until i learn how to design and code my own games, i'll be happy with shopping for developed games that are fun to play. my 2 cents.

Yeah, with BF2 you can only really eat/smoke/take a wizz while on the "verifying client data" screen.

They changed it so much by introducing ROEs that it has been a big turn off for a lot of the old schoolers of the BF series. They turned it into 'Battlefield America's Army'.

Some people love it, others don't. Those that don't are hoping the upcoming mods will be more to their liking, I fall into that catagory.

Do you think the BF2 "community" is ready for something as complex and demanding as "objectives"? :p

Im looking forward for this game : http://www.ghostrecon.com/uk/ghostrecon3/index.php

Maybe it will satisfy you, cause it's an objectives based game , so we can guess there will be a lot of teamwork http://media.pc.ign.com/media/736/736230/vids_1.html

                Talking about revolution : http://ftp.sierra.com/vug/worldincon...ounce_480p.mov

                It sounds great.

Unfortunatly , I wont be able to run it...

2142 will have "UBER INVISIBLE SNIPERZZ!!! ZOMFG!!!"... personally Id like to have a game that doesnt have the "-Stated Above-". Kinda makes it unfair... the futuristic theme EA is using this time doesnt really appeal to me... I guess Ill just DL the demo... If its actually as crap as people say it is so far, jack it dude, im gonna go buy Quake Wars. Ill give EA one last chance.

Re: Are we on the verge of revolution?

Gaming is being revolutionized on all fronts, people are sick of grinding in rpgs, rushing in RTses and doing well...the same thing again and again in Shooters....

With the new hardware coming out and new games I think we are getting there.

Btw I actually predict that even with all the crap weve been put through with bf2 that 2142 will actually be pretty good.

Re: Are we on the verge of revolution?

I don't expect any "revolutions" in the games industry. Right now, the market is very tight and investors/publishers/moneymen are rather gunshy about putting their bucks into anything that isn't "proven" or is "fluff".

More game types would rock, but BF2 has proven that it's not a requirment to sell games. It's also proven that they can disuade people from free mod content by getting us addicted to global stats, thus alowing them to sell more ranked content.

The only positive industry issue I've seen is that EA seems to have figured out that community contact, PR, and support are more important factors than they've previously considered. I've heard rumblings about a new division being looked at within the company to adress that specificly after they took an unexpected beating over the last year.

So... I'm basicly saying "don't hold your breath". BF2142 will sell reguardless of the gametypes that it has. What could hurt it is continued poor handling of the customer base and their developers.

The ultimate portrayal of that was when my friend Rich ordered a copy of BF2 off of Amazon. He receives it in it's brand spanking new unopened state, installs it, goes to play online and bam... it tells him his cdkey is crap.

                          No big deal....

He goes through the hoops of EA's tech support. They tell him, send us an image of your game with the case, dvd and cd-key on the back of the manual. He does this for them. They tell him it is a fake image and it is impossible for him to have that cd-key because that batch was destined for some place in Florida. So, he reminds them that he bought the game off of Amazon and not some local game store. They insist it is a fake. He records a video of him waving the manual and dvd around back and forth in front of the cam and stops here and there so it can focus on the cd-key. Same reply from them. he is one heck of a video chopper seeing as he was supposed to have edited the image on about 15 seconds of moving image and then upload it to some space in about 10 minutes of their last email reply, I would think for an average Joe that it would be impossible and probably the same for an expert.

                          So...

He figures, well BF42 was a good game and he got a lot game time off it, not to mention that most of his buddies picked it up and say they like it. So he goes to the local game store and grabs a copy. After a few weeks, he is a little dismayed that he had to pay twice for a game he doesn't like as much as the previous one. Don't get me wrong, he still plays the game and does like it, just not twice as much as he should be.

If they could fix their tech support, that would be the best patch yet.

If anyone here ever played Unreal Tournament (the original one) it had a mode called ASSAULT. Let me just say, that it was a very awesume type of game mode.
Anyways, if this type of play ever came to bf......omg would it rock.

                            how it worked was this........
The map had say, 4 objectives that had to be attained. They also had to be attained in order. Once one objective was made, you could spawn closer. Each objective also was in the form of a choke point, be it a bridge that was blocked so you couldnt go further into the map. So you had to pull off the first objective, in order for the bridge to get cleared, so you could get to the next objective. Confusing? i hope not. It was a very entertaining way to play.

Well actually thats more of a case of spawn raping predominantly by the air units in the other team, whether you try to reach land by boat or chopper you're going to die unless you:
A: Have a pilot who's interested in the team instead of stats
B: Spawn onto the map quicker than the other team, once the other team have a couple of minutes to sort their defences out you're pretty much screwed.

Unfortunately you're going to need to post a video of you typing it while holding a sign with TotalBF2.com written on it and sitting in front of the CN Tower.
