Just to alert you all to this thread on another forum and I've just found it too with Windows Defender, you can get spyware from server logos? :hmm:

I think this was brought up before. it is a known fact that virii/trojans can be hidden in .jpg files.

You can also get malware from the MOTD's in source games since they use the IE rendering engine. Nothing new here. Always someone out there trying to recruit another sucker for their botnet.

Okay before people start freaking out, there is no spyware in BF2, the malicious code is found in the images that are used for server ads on the connection screen......I don't even know if EA/Dice can do anything about it(but I could be wrong).

So I suggest you change the name of thread before people start going ape$hit

Its not in BF2...the images displayed are supplied by the server you are connecting to.

The images are saved onto your computer by the game, the reason I'm suggesting that you change the title of the thread is because people will assume(they always do) that the code was put in there by EA/Dice which is clearly not the case...but I offered my advice...do what you want.

Is there any way to prevent the server logos from saving to your pc?? I don't see any real advantage to it, and there are a few pretty obvious disadvantages.........

Ok so DICE didn't code spyware into BF2, but people have figured out how to get spyware on your computer using BF2..soo yes, it is in BF2, and people should read this thread and go ape sht.

I always thought those annoying/useless server graphics could be used in this way. Also i hate that pause when clicking on a server in the server browser so it can download the image.

All in all it's a waste of time/resources/potential to wreck computers.

So, can downloading server graphics be turned off? Surely there must be a way...

They are largely useless.

How in the hell do you know good servers? I know I am usually picking one with a decent amount of players and a good ping. I really dont have any 1 fvorite server.

How do you define a good server do you persoanlly scan all the images to weed out the bad ones? EA needs to do something on their end.
