I say the two most important flags to capture in the beginning of the game are the MEC base Factory and Suburbs. They're at opposite corners of the map and somewhat isolated from the fierce combat at Hotel. Once they're captured, just work your way inwards.

here is my take on it, like it or not, just my take.
people do this, not to win, (although it would be nice) but because in the end people really just want to fight other people FPS style. Which is why you have the folks playing maps like SAK, and other urban/city type maps. We, or mostly WE, (we being SAK players) dont like helos, and planes spamming us, and basically ruining a good ground fight.
Ok....air aside, its just fun fighting for that one flag. I do agree that winning the map, the hotel isnt key, for sure.
But the action around it always is awesume. Which is why you see alot of fighting going on around it.
Hence.......FPS. Thats what BF2 and bf42 is...in its core gameplay. I dont care how many planes tanks, cars, helos, or whatever else they put it, in the end, we just want to pull a trigger, and out gun the other guy.
      FPS. Its that simple.

Deeds, Karkand has got to be the easiest map to wh0re on no matter what clase you play. USMC can charge the Hotel with the DAO-12 and own everyone. Its practically 1 shot kill.

Re: You mean there's more to Karkand than the Hotel?

I read the first page, couldn't be bothered with the rest.

I disagree with the originator. Running after the MEC main is boring, makes the map end too quick and doesn't have enough fighting. In a clan match yeah, that's the way to go, but for pure fun value (which is what I play the game for), fighting your way into the hotel and beyond is the way to go.

If I was an *ss, I would TK my teammates trying to run for that main MEC flag. Alas, I am an *ss but I don't do it.

Some people prefer action and fighting rather than sneaking around and waiting at a flag.

Re: You mean there's more to Karkand than the Hotel?

The Suburb is the easiest and most important non-main flag on Karkand.

It's incredibly easy to defend once you have it, it sits on high ground, and it has direct access routes to 3 of the 5 flags.

Karkand is just a pointwhoring map.

Intense fights, yeah, repetitivness, yeah. Boring, yeah.

I'd like to see all those people that try to sneak around Karkand to factory play on PRMM and get owned when they figure out its AAS(assault and secure) or if EA/Dice could implement it MEC might have a chance when there isnt any nubbies sneaking past the battleground to get points @ flag capping, notice my fav map is Strike @ Karkand on MEC for all those USMC nubs that point farm that map w/ APC im waitin for ya :)

Points are just a result of playing the game, the fact is with soo many people fighting for Hotel this allows you few to sneak bye. If nobody fought through the streets to Hotel, all the action would be at these places you say nobody uses. I agree with you that it's near impossible to get people to join via Screen Messages, I have more success using the ingame VOIP.

                        I disagree.

The most important flag is the hotel. Even if you lose Hotel and all subsequent flags all the way up to the railroad tracks, the #1 objective should be to cross the river, make your way up to Hotel via the right flank and cap it. This does 2 things:

                        a) Makes a ton of them go back to Hotel in fear of losing the flag.
                        b) Forces the armor to make a pitstop on the way to the action.

Another important note is that it is fully possible to stay in the Hotel flag zone and be completely unharmed from armor. Just don't stay too close to the walls and near the flag.

As the famous military maxim goes: Divide and Conquer.

The suburb is a pretty good point, however it provides a few very strong disadvantages:

                        a) It may have access to multiple flags, but it takes time to get there. Not to mention, getting to those flags means running through some very hilly terrain that is wide open. There is only 1 Vodnick for transport (usually taken by a lucky single person who does god knows what with it).

                        b) Armor can simply roll in unhindered. The stationary AT weapon is easily disposed of most of the time. APCs usually show up pretty fast and don't give you time to man the weaponry. If you wait for the APCs, they may never come and you'd end up wasting your time.

Contrary what you said, suburb is actually a pretty good distance from all other flags (thus the name). This means anyone spawning there will do a hell of alot of walking.

Hotel, on the other hand, has direct access to the courtyard and is even easier to defend. Any armor en-route to the back flags will get held back because of this flag, allowing the MEC armor to walk all over the other ones.

Re: You mean there's more to Karkand than the Hotel?

The hotel is fairly important. I know many, MANY times, when my team was getting beat down........i'd try a few times and eventually succeed in getting the hotel flag. When I did, it seemed that the game started to turn in our favor.
Point is, it starts to devide up the defenses, or offenses.
But still, people do (majority) want action, and they are willing to go where it is. If EVERYONE was fighting at the suburbs........believe me, it would be there. Reason the hotel is a hot spot, is its just the natural place to do so, as first spawn, its the closest flag for all.
Also, i dont find kark to be repetitive. Perhaps within the first say, 3-6 minutes of it. After that, its always different........at least for me.

Noone wants to spend the map capping flags. YOu get 20 points that way, Or you can throw 5 nades and get that. Then run in and yuo will get about 80 points the time you cap the other flags by yourself.

there is a certain satisfaction in taking the Hotel flag the hard way. It feels even better being able to hold it and take square. I agree the way to win is to divide up squads, have one concentrate on hotel to distract the MEC another squad go either side and keep doing it until you get through. with a good MEC defense though it is hard to do. If you have not taken a flag within 5 or 10 minutes the game is lost, unless you take all flags and kill all.
