          Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

I have 3 GREAT gunners in my clan
they avg 40-80 kills per game
the set up is important (ahh, by me - hehe)
          but they
          1. lead the target (this is MOST important - getting it right the 1st time)
          2. click maybe 2 more times
3 (sometimes - click more - but it might make the missle go 'goofy')
          and best advice for anyone>>>>>>>>>>>>
PRACTICE PRE _GAME vs non-moving targets till you are PERFECT
then have friends drive tanks for you pre-game
          LOTS easier with little pressure
my gunners hit 99% of ground targets and 50-80% of air targets
I started at 1% vs ground and with about an hour of practice pre-game
and now up to 50% ground targets (in game)
          all due to practicing
          good luck

OMG I have SSOOOOOOO been going wrong
I thought i was just proper crap cos I couldn't steer the d-a-m-n thing.
            Boy am I stoopid :laugh::laugh::laugh:
Same here. I thought the missle went where you were looking! So, the missle goes where you click??

Like many others, I've been toying around on SP trying to figure this out. What do the little x's or crosses mean? I'll get a tank in my line of sight (which isn't easy on SP, some of those AI can't fly to save their lives), and when I click to fire the missle I get a little x on the target. I click again and get another little x. I'll sometimes get five or six little x's before the missle actually fires. What's that about??

So, if I can see the target when I'm in gun view, but not in TV view (say the target is off screen to my left).........Can I fire the missle, then click toward the left side of the screen to send the missle to the left, and repeat this until the target is in sight in TV mode????

The biggest thing is to get a good video card. It will become choppy and take about two seconds to respond once you click.

Also how do u practice on single player? All the maps are the small version and the bots are too stupid to fly. :?

Some of the AI can fly, some can't. It seems to be a coin toss on that one... I've been practicing on SP Zatar Wetlands. I go MEC, grab a buggy and an AI or two, and haul a$$ to the middle flag. The chopper spawns once you control the flag. If you take at least one AI with you from your spawn, you'll have a pilot (they'll run straight to the chopper when it spawns). I use the 64 bot SP mod so I have more targets. I also tried using the 64 player map SP mod, but was getting kicked when I tried to get online with it. Uninstalling the mod made that problem go away. My current best is on the 64 player map with 64 bots.....135 kills and 0 deaths, 264 points. Most of those kills are with the gun, obviously. I just need more practice with the TV.

That's indicating a friendly. Don't shoot or you'll most likely a get a tk for it. That's why I was teasing Verzilli.

Ps: I know tk don't matter in SP but you only play SP cause you want to learn right?

                      Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

This thread explains why I always get a gunner who shoots the TV missle off into nowhere all the time..... if they even know how to change to it. LOL

                      As mentioned above :

-2-3 clicks is optimal. 5 at most. More than that and you are going to have issues.

-Let your pilot line you up nicely before unleashing it. I played with a guy last night who was an awesome pilot and set me up for lots of kills. Unfortunately, I kept missing last night for some reason ... LOL Oh well.

-Don't waste it on soldiers because it will be recharging when you need it. Guns for the soldiers.

-Try to hit other choppers from the side or back. Head on works, but it is a tougher shot and the other pilot will see it coming and can get out of the way. A large broadside view is the best time to take the shot.

-Only switch to TV view when you see something that needs to be taken out with it. Flying around in that view severely limits your line of sight.

As for practice.... use bots as others have mentioned. I also parked it on top of a tall building with the nose poking off the edge and practiced looking around with the gun. You could probably fire off the tv missle and guide it also.

                        Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

just test what a click does and the missiles manuvearability with each click. once you know how much the missile will move with each click(and were on the screen u click), it comes natural taking out targets after that.

                          Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

Tanks are dead as soon as my pilot sees them, allowing me for a TV shot and enemy choppers I hit 80% of the time, you just have to lead the missile into the SOB's. Cobra's missile is 500% more maneuverable than the Hind's and if you can hit with the Z10, you should always be able to hit with the Cobra since the Z10 is slightly less maneuverable than the Cobra.

The number one thing that irritates gunners the most is the "Going-Through-Choppers" glitch, you could hit them right on and it will go right through them. You need to aim for the tail rotor section of the chopper.

                            Practice makes perfect.

Single player, start playing with bots as a gunner and youll get better significantly.

I use the 3 click rule myself when the targets are far.
1st click- general direction of the target
                            2nd click- on the target
                            3rd click- adjustment, if necessary

In close, you just have to develop better judgement on the distance and speed and youll mostly do it in 1 click.
Thats what Ive been doing, just flying in single player trying to get better at piloting and gunning.

                              Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

Ground targets are something that needs no real tips, just practice. Ground targets i'll generally only use 2-3 clicks. For attack choppers i'll only aim for the nose or the tail as those areas don't seem to have collision issues. I'll normally use 4 clicks for attack choppers:

                              One to start
                              One for general direction
                              One to lead the target
Last one to pull back towards target at last second.

Thats just how i found what works for me about 80% of the time except on dragon valley which is another game in it's own.

Transport choppers are alot easier as they don't have the same collision issues. Jets are something else i can take out 50% of the time when they coming straight on, i've found leading so the missile goes above or below the plane depending on it's direction works best.

Edit: Also learn to solo fly/gun, it works alot better in single player than letting the bot fly.

                                Re: Need TV Guiding Tips

yeah, the best thing for this is just practice. I would consider myself a fairly good gunner, hitting most of my targets with one shot, and all i did was practice.

Also, Twisted, at the end of your post you said solo flying/gunning, ive been toying with that for the past week or so, and i have gotten pretty good. The only thing that irritates me is that whenever i switch to the gunner seat the chopper spins, causing me to lead the target by a lot before switching. I know it's possible, cuz ive seen it done, but how do you get the chopper to stay pretty much stationary when you switch?

If you know and could tell me it would be great, thx.
