I have a 250GB 2nd hard drive that is a SATA type, which I use to store high definition videos on. Would you know how to establish a path to this drive from my other one for the paging file?

I downloaded CachemanXP to monitor my RAM, but I never seem to get over 1.3 - 1.4gb. So that means it probably isn't the RAM that is the issue.

You should be able to create a pagefile on it using Computer Management. I'm not sure what you mean by establish a path since it seems to be already connected.

What I meant was change the current "directory" that the page file is saved to. I’ll look through computer management to find how to do this. Thanks.

Disable the page/swap file. I have 1.5GB of ram and I can alt+tab every program/game I run instantly. With 2GB of ram there's not many applications that will require more memory anyway, unless you're into photoshop or something crazy like that. The average gamer will not suffer without a page file.

I have just tried disabling the page file, restarted the computer, then proceded to play BF2 for an hour. After exiting, I noticed not really any performance difference. After I exit, the hard drive is still working flat out for 3 minutes or so.

And in his case it looks like there using memory and his cpu, Currently with 6 firefox browsers open msn messenger, and atitraytools, i have 21 processes running and 211 mem usage, when I play bf2 its at 130mb after closing things. the amount of processes you have running is very bad to me, I reinstall windows when istart getting more processes and less memory to work with.

Hmm, not sure what it could be then. Are you sure you clicked the "set" button in the Virtual Memory dialog? If you just click ok, the changes will not register. Stupid I know, but it got me the first time.

Nope, I definitely hit the Set button. It also says total paging size for all drives is 0mb.

The problem is your 1GB ram.

But I still seem to have a real slow down after playing the game. I'll try again tomorrow night though and load some larger maps. I'll time how long it takes for Internet Explorer to open after exiting to desktop.

Edit: just for reference, here is what mine looks like 30 seconds after bootup with the computer connected to the internet and mIRC running.
I have ended no tasks manually.

This is usually the stats at which I play BF2 or any game with (I am on IRC 24/7)

Wow, please disable at least 20 things in startup. The only process you need to start is AshDsp.exe. Disable everything else under your user name.

I'd go to start, run, type msconfig. Go to the startup tab, then uncheck all boxes except AshDsp. Also if you haven't already disable system restore.

Have just tested out restarting my computer with all items in the startup tab disabled. Had an hour long go at BF2, and when I exited, noticed not really any improvement. Maps had loaded slightly quicker, and it may have improved the speed by about 30% when exiting. The hard drive continued to work hard for a couple of minutes before I could do anything though. If I load only one map then exit to desktop after playing it, I can start up Internet Explorer in about 3 seconds.

I also have this problem, but I set my system to do it automatically, and it helped a bit.

This seems to be caused by a memory leak, and only happens once in a while. I use CacheMan to control how much my processes run, and have had nothing but good things to say about the software.

If the game doesn't "shut down" I run the "recover memory now" option and it takes less time to close off.

I've been plagued with this problem for a while now, but as long as the game runs, I'm happy! :)

jup ,i used to have this problem to , but than i used cacheman xp and it really helped .
