2gb of Ram but computer slows down?

I currently have 4 512mb DDR400 Ram sticks running in Dual Channel mode, which gives me pretty good performance when playing BF2. But I have noticed that if I load and play 1 map, and then exit out of the game to desktop before loading a second map, I am able to immediately go straight to browsing the internet, checking emails etc.

If I keep playing BF2 and go on to load a second map, it takes more than 3 minutes for the computer to “recover” when I exit to desktop. After clicking on anything I have to wait 3 or more minutes before I get any response. Is this issue related to the memory becoming full after loading 2 maps? Would having 3gbs of ram solve this? Check how much ram BF2 is using after loading a few maps. This shouldn't happen with 2GB. If you're using AMD, your ram is probably running at DDR333 too.

One thing I have noticed is that the hard drive light stays on the whole time while I wait for the computer to recover... almost like the hard drive was being used like RAM...

It's called page filing.

Windows establishes a space on your C:\ drive and uses it to page files to and from the hard drive as a virtual memory when it wants to. I think windows uses a set percentage of your total drive capacity for this file.

How much space should I set page filing to? It's currently set to 1536mb.

1.5x the amount of ram you have

for example i have 2048mb of ram and times that by 1.5 i get 3069mb

But I still seem to have a real slow down after playing the game. I'll try again tomorrow night though and load some larger maps. I'll time how long it takes for Internet Explorer to open after exiting to desktop.

Set it to 3 and 6 GB. What kind of HDD do you have?

I have a Seagate 120GB ATA IDE hard drive with 2mb cache. When I try to set the paging file size any higher, it says I can't set the maximum size to more than 4092mb.

I also have this problem, but I set my system to do it automatically, and it helped a bit.

This seems to be caused by a memory leak, and only happens once in a while. I use CacheMan to control how much my processes run, and have had nothing but good things to say about the software.

If the game doesn't "shut down" I run the "recover memory now" option and it takes less time to close off.

I've been plagued with this problem for a while now, but as long as the game runs, I'm happy! :)

I have a 250GB 2nd hard drive that is a SATA type, which I use to store high definition videos on. Would you know how to establish a path to this drive from my other one for the paging file?

I downloaded CachemanXP to monitor my RAM, but I never seem to get over 1.3 - 1.4gb. So that means it probably isn't the RAM that is the issue.

its becasue you have too many processes running i only have 25 running try getting rid of some.
