    6600GT Card Comparison

I just bought a new computer with the following specs, and am in the process of bringing it up to par. I've narrowed down my video card choices to those below, and since quiet is a big part in the decision, you will notice they are all passivly cooled.

As you can see, the top two are 128 mb cards, and the third is 256. They all are relatively close in price, so I'm wondering which one would give me the best performance.

Go with the 256, though you should consider getting a 7600gt instead.

Only problem with the 7600's is there are none with passive cooling. Is the extra pixels (12 instead of 8) worth the extra price? Also, if I choose to still go with the 6600's, the 256 is DDR2, while the other two are DDR3, will that play a signifigant role?

YOu sure you want to go passivly cooled? Not the best idea for a gaming rig.

Ok, on second thought the ones with gddr3 are the ones you want. The 7600gt stock cooler is extremely quiet.

I'm not committed to a passive cooling rig, just dont want a jet next to my face.

Looking at the 7600's now, are there any particular ones that you prefer?

Edit: The XFX looks like the best for the money:

The 6600's are almost 2 years old. Do yourself a favor and get a modern card, and add a 3rd party passive cooler if necessary.

That one is okay, but I'd go for this one:

Aftering comparing the two, the only difference I could find was the slightly higher core clock on the XFX (590 vs 580). Is that the only difference, or have eVGA's proven to be better than XFX's for this card.

eVGA all the way. Lifetime warrenty, and the awesome Step Up program made me go with the eVGA 7600 GT.

eVGA definently does have the better warranty, however i am a bit concerned about all the negative reviews for fan noise. Is it really that loud, or do all the 7600's have the same fan, thus rendering the noise issue null.

go with eVGA then for the step up program. if you save the recepiet for your video card, you can send in your old video card (say 7600GT), and "step up" to a bigger and better one. You only have to pay the difference in your price, I know a member of the forums here, Jofaba, went from 2 7800GTs to 2 7900GTX superclocks, and I think he had to pay something like $50 for each card to step up.

Thats a fact i never knew there lonegunm4n. That has to be terrible for eVGA's buisness though, but terrific for the consumer.
