    unlocking CPU multiplier

Is this possible for say a AMD 64 3200+? is there any way in hell to unlock the CPU Multi in my BIOS or otherwise? this would help greatly if it would...

There is no way, they are hardlocked. If it was that easy there would be no need for the FX series of processors. There have been a couple rumored accidental unlocks of the newer AMD chips, but no one has been able to figure out how or why.

IS YOUR 3200+ a Venice or San Diego Core ?

It has to be a Venice if only given those two choices. They are the same core except Venice has 512mb cache and SD has 1Mb L2. The only way his 3200+ could be a SD would be if it was an SD with half it's cache disabled. That would essentially make it a Venice, so I don't see the point of this question.

I know on some of the older AMD XP proc you could unlock them yourself by removing some diodes. I dunno know how to do it. The last article I saw on it was many years ago.

Wait, lets not get confused. AMD only upward locks their chips. You can have your stock multi and any of the lower mutlis. What he's asking is if it's upward unlockable. For instance he has a 10x multi and wants an 11x.

AMD did have up and down unlockable chips until shortly after bartons were released. Then they started locking upward multipliers on XP's and 64's.

Intel locks them the same way, you can down, but not up.

No intel locks them in both directions, you cannot manipulate the multiplier on ANY Intel CPU since the Pentium 1 (possbily the Pentium Pro ... im not sure)

Well some of the newer ones are unlocked from like 18x down to 12x or something like that. I'm not sure exactly which ones though.

I dont think thats accurate, maybe you mean the Speed step downclocking to reduce power consumption? That reduces the multiplier, but allows for no user control

My brother has a laptop with an Intel CPU and it will declock itself to increase the battery life. It's a feature you turn on in the BIOS, I know that much cause he got tired of the processor declocking itself when he was playing HL2.

Why is it that you're looking to do with the Venice? What's your goal? I've got the same processor and am currently trying to reach 2.7 on air. I've managed to make 2.6 stable with one 120mm fan blowing on my Scythe Ninja heatsinks with the case closed. In trying to go above that, I had to put another 120mm on the heatsink and opening my case got me an extra 1-2c drop. I'm averaging 48/49c for 2.65ghz at 1.55v currently. Prime95 has been running for 30 minutes now.

Despite what I've been told, it seems like the 3200+ Venice overclocks quite nicely. I'm new to overclocking and don't know much about HTT and FSB, so I'm not sure why you'd want to increase the multiplier. Is it to even up the ram frequency?
