Exactly, and you couldn't pay me to go over to dfi street, it's just full of d-tards who will flame you for no apperant reason or for just disagreeing with them. I recommend either http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/, or hardforum.com.

^exactly, PLUS windows 32bit cant even handle it, only registers 3.5 i think or something like that.

I'll do a pros and cons.

        4 x XXX:
        --------------------
        Pros - none

Possible cons - DDR333mhz, 2T command, instability, incompatibility
Definite cons - more expensive, no overclockability

        2 x XXX
        ------------------
Pros - cheaper, less power, stable, runs at it's default speed, overclockability

        Cons - none

        There is no comparison.

DFI Street is one of the most helpful forums I have been to for computer related help. I built my computer using that site. So don't knock it until you've asked for help.

Bottom line.. BOTH WILL WORK FINE. It always depends on your setup. I've seen both setups work very similarly in performance tests. So you can say that one way is DEFINITELY better than the other because BOTH work just fine.

ones things for sure about this, no matter the performance difference (2x1gb is probably like 1% better), it is not worth the money to trash 4x512 sticks for 2x1gb. the reason I got it was because it was cheaper at the time, and I was planning on only have 1gb, until bf2 owned it.

Yes, I sure can. Having 2x is definetly better than 4x.

You actually got really lucky that you can run 1T with all 4 dimms filled. Who in this thread is suggesting to trash 4x512mb? What I'm saying is if he's upgrading and has no DDR400 or has a set of 2 x 512mb to get 2x1Gb.

              I sold my old set of G.skill 2 x 512 DDR550 LE's for about $250 and bought a set of 2 x 1Gb Mushkin for $260. Total cost of upgrade $10.

LOL Alright, you caught my typo. I meant to say you CANNOT say one is definitely better. It was late, and I was tired. Go to the site I provided and check out some benchmarks, or any tech help site for that matter. You will see that it does NOT matter if you have 4x512 or 2x1. Of course depending on the type and speed of the RAM and processor.

                  4x512 will have tighter timings.

Yeah thats true but I was trying leave the option open of 4 x 1Gb.

Here are some benchmarks supporting 2x1Gb:

Wow, do you guys know anything about computers... at all?

Tighter timings depends on the type of RAM and speed.
It has nothing to do w/ how many sticks you have in the DIMM slots.

                      My default timings (Crucial Ballistix PC4000 3-3-3-8 @ 250)
These are considered 'OK' timings. Tighter would be 2-2-5-2 for example. G.Skill usually has tight default timings.

Take a look at the DFI Overclocking Database here: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10195

And for once, please post your comments with proof to back up what you're saying. Because all I've seen so far is diarrhea of the mouth.

I'm not going to be an ass, but you are misunderstanding him. What he means is that 4x would have better timings if you buy a set of 512mb with the tightest timings available (2-2-2-5), and a set of 1Gb with the tightest timings available (2-3-2-5). In general the expensive high end less dense 512mb modules have tighter timings than their 1Gb counterparts. Jimmy knows plenty about computers.

                        I just posted proof.

What is the point of posting the DFI street database?

Just to show that 2x1 will yield the same results as 4x512.
Why are you so concerned about tighter timings? You should look for performance, how high you can clock, and stability. If he's not overclocking, then another 2x512 set of the same stuff will work fine.

I apologize for blowing up, but I'm a little hot-headed.
Just don't around telling people one is definitely better than the other because both will work FINE. That is all I'm trying to say.

I'll continue to tell people that 2 x 1Gb is better than 4 x 512mb because it is. You have posted no proof to the contrary. I've posted quite a few pros and cons as well as a website link directly comparing 2 x 1Gb vs. 4 x 512mb using the exact same timings in a controlled environment. Im sure that isn't the case on DFI street.

                            I'm done with this thread.

Go look at the timings for 512MB sticks, then go look at timings for 1GB sticks.

I wasn't sayng one was beteer than the other, Wreck has said that there are no advantages to 4x512, and I listed one, that is all.
