memory is good, but like the other guys said some cards just dont use it properly. My suggestion is to get a carch with a fast GPU, and at least a 256-bit interface or higher. This type of setup bypasses the need for excessive ammounts of memory in todays games.
dont get me wrong extra mem is still nice for high texture details and and other such graphics, that are stored in the mem and brougt back up frequently.
Other effects and filtering really requires higher interface speed with the processor.
I forgot to mention buy what you need for your gaming, alot of games are dependant on a min. video memory so make sure you at least have the min. although the chipsets supported is more important.
