x800gto vs 6600 gt

Well I suppose its time to upgrade the old video card, currently i have a geforce 5200.:p ...I've been happy with nvidia so far, so I would like another nvidia card but I don't want to go broke. My price range is around 170-180. I have an agp slot.

My two main choices are Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP or the XFX Geforce 6600GT. I'm leaning towards the x800gto since it has 12 pixelpipelines and 256 memory size and memory interface...Its also cheaper.

Nothing Impressive.... Pentium R 2.60 ghz and 1.5 gb of ram ddr 400...450 watt power supply. Again current card is geforce 5200 128 mb:hmm:

The GTO is the better card by far, but remember, never compare different manufacturer or even different product families to each other directly. ie... Intel vs AMD, nvidia vs ATI. Pipelines and bandwidth and memory interface are all markers of performance, but try to find raw performance numbers and benchmarks in your search for a new video card.

You can compare a 6600 to a 6600GT to a 6800, but you cant even comapre those to an FX or an ATI card etc... different animals each on of them.

I would go with an x800 series card, see if you can get an x800XL if possible, otherwise the GTO is good.

i would go with the x800gto. the 6600gt is good but the x800gto has more memory, better interface, and more pipes.

Yup, go for the GTO. I was in a similar situation and got the GTO instead. Depends which brand of the GTO you get, mine overclocked 25% with no problems.

Yeah, I was pretty certain about the GTO being the better card spec wise. But I've heard some issues with other ATI cards and not being able to play bf2. Also the GTO is down 10 bucks this weekend on newegg. It was 175 on thursday

Also while I'm at it I'm due for a new power supply, less than 50 dollars. Does it matter what kind I use like a special type or will a decent power supply work with 400-500 watts

If you're gonna get a new psu, it should cost at least 70-90 bucks to be halfway decent. Anything under 50 is gonna be extremely suspect.

Some for 6600GT.

Some are pci-e and some are agp. But i think you could base your decision off them anyway. I wouldDefinitelytake the X800GT or GTO!

Hehe, flanker, u got served lol. I thought u were a hardware expert (which u pretty much are), but u forgot that he has AGP. Anyways, one thing, with the computer u have now, i might wanna just like build a new computer. I could make a computer with PCI-e with a 7600GT for around 600 bucks. It's pretty cheap nowadays. But if u wanna get AGP, get the 6800GS if u got the money, it's like 200 bucks on newegg.com, if u can't afford that, i guess the GTO is good, also the X800XL is nice and cheap.
