That is ATI your thinking of, Nvidia requires the same model of card... ie a 7800GT and a 7800GT. You cannot mix a 7800 and a 7900 card.

That's one of the reasons that people don't use SLi. Anyways, not many people use Crossfire at all, cause the mobos for it cost like 200 bucks a piece, and crossfire GPUs cost like 100 bucks more than their non CF-master cards. Also, Crossfire has a reputation of being very unreliable.

Uh oh. So I'm the only one who's going to be using SLi? I'll have to post an in depth review so the rest of the world knows whether it actually works or was all a big hoax! =P

Well, ya, a lot of people on this forum (gamerz) use SLi. I should probably edit that and add 'some' before 'people' in that post. Anyways, blak pheonix, ya, i'm too lazy to change my 'location'.

I wonder if the 7900GT and the 7800GT will be able to SLI, just make the 7900GT clock down to match the 7800GT??? anyone?

I believe the 7900GT has 24 pipelines instead of 20, plus they're totally different cores, the G70 core (7800series) and the G73 core (7900 series).

Correct, Nvidia has SLI setup so that you need to use the same model of card... even a 7800GT and 7800GTX are not compatible.

It must be the exact same model of card.

Who else other than "gamers" would need SLI? Not like housewives checking to see what heppened on the latest episode of all my children would need it...

Honestly, who cares if they discontinue the 7800GT? You'll still be able to buy one on eBay and eStores for quite a while. If you haven't already bought one that you plan to sli, then get a 7900GT. I just found out about eVGA's "Step Up" program that let's you trade up without a value loss within 90 days of purchasing your card. I'm literally going to be able to upgrade to two 7900GT's for FREE! Or, if I really want to get crazy, I can upgrade to two 7900GTX's for $300. GTX is too big to run in sli though I believe. So I'm probably going with either the GT CO or the GT SC (I dont actually know what it's abbreviation is. They called it a "super clock". It's just 50mhz on the core and .08 on the ram for $30 a card. Hardly worth it but I'll get it if they don't send you money because the GT CO actually costs less than the cards I bought =)
