Actually, this is perfect for people who own a 30" dell widescreen and wants to play every game on ultra high at native res.

Deffinately, four those cards would be essentially useless on lower res but i think im going to need to start saving...

But that is part of the fun of it. They wouldn't build these things if someone wasn't buying. Notice that even Dell has started to offer high end gaming machines. They wouldn't do it if it weren't a good market. People are buying and the profit margins are great.

We all have our toy fetishes and amount we're willing to (or able to) spend for them. Money and sense are totally relative. Maybe the 8K rig will only pull another 15-20 fps on highest settings. If you've got the green to spend and the desire for the rig, who cares if it is sensible. It's all about what you can afford and have the stomach to spend.

By the time I priced it out like I wanted it the price was 7,939.00. I added RAM and some other stuff and dropped the Klipsch speakers. When I built my current dream machine I'd set a budget of 5K and came in about 1K under. Looking like I'll need to upgrade my budget for dream gaming rig 2.0 By the time my current rig is obsolete it will be completely different hardware than that Alienware. Who knows, maybe I'll jump over to a multi-ATI card rig if they are the top card of the day.

i WONT be buying windows vista unless gaming requires me to

i had windows 2k on my old rig no problems at all in fact it was better for gaming than xp as it used less than half the ram that xp does

i can see vista eating several hundred MB of RAM bad for gaming

Wow...for 7K you get 1gb ram, integrated sound, only 1 optical drive, 1 hard drive, no monitor, 4 over-priced graphics cards, and a psu that could power my zip code...
sounds like a good deal to me!

Alienware are overpriced, better building yourself.

lol, I just configured the Alienware to the best on everything and it added up too:

                  $12,228.00 as low as $367/mo.*

But that kind of assumes that you don't already have a good monitor (or two), speakers and things like that.

But it sure is pretty! Actually I like the Voodoo's better for aesthetics. Better off to build it yourself.

I do that sometimes too when I'm bored. I'll go to Alienware, Voodoo, Falcon Northwest and Velocity Micro and put together the baddest rig possible on that day. With everything. Dual monitors, best speakers, etc, etc. Then I pick my jaw up off of the floor Still fun to window shop.

alienware uses noobie marketing to bring people in, before I knew much about computers and I was looking to get a new one I almost considered it but couldnt afford it.
