unless you want to overclock or do alot of multitasking DO NOT get the x2 3800+

4000+ would be best there @ no overclock

Yea a lot of people say to get x2 3800+ and i'll probably get it. Here's another thing which mobo should i get. i have no idea about mobos. I'll get the x1900xt and maybe in the future the crossfire edition. I already looked at the dfi ultra-d and asus m8r-mvp. some people said that they had problem w/ these mobos. MY budget is $170. My total budget for the pc is $1500.

The single core 4000+ is the fastest for current gaming, and will probably be the fastest during the life of the chip. (SMP games really wont be out for a few years, at least in mass)

That being said the video card is more influential for gaming and the CPU pretty much plays a secondary role once you run at higher resolutions. 640x480 benchmarks are misleading, once you get 12x10 and esspecially 16x12 or higher, its mostly the video card doing the show.

I would go with the X2 chip, its pretty much in the same ballpark as the other chips but will provide alot of benefits with the dual cores. OC it a bit and you wont skip a beat.

Gaming might be your primary concern, but it isnt everything and esspecially with the video card doing all the work, get a CPU that will help with things outside of games.

I run the X2 3800 @ 2.5 runs cool and fast...

I would get another great cpu...
