Is it possible to run BF2 with high textures on 2GB ram?

My setup is 3GHz P4 HT 512MB ram, Radeon X300SE 128MB. I'm looking to get 2GB of ram to eliminate my stuttering woes but I was wondering if those that have 2GB of ram can run with minimal (or no) stuttering problems. My settings currently are mostly high/med. High geometry, effects, view distance. The rest is med.

the effective FPS depends completely on youir videocard , not on your amount of ram , your x300se is weak .

The only advantage that more ram has, is that the complete texture maps and other stuff can be loaded into the ram, so in game it doesn't have to start swapping and causing major stuttering .

But in your case, it won't help

Well I have a Pentium D 3.0GHZ, 2 gigs of DDR2 ram, GeForce 6600 GT 256 MB PCI-E, and I can run High graphics without a problem. Sometimes server lag can cause it to be choppy though. I must warn you though that in playing with high graphics it becomes harder to see the enemy. Things blend so much more, it really is tough. However it looks beautiful. Hope that helps.

I'm not concerned about my FPS. I actually get very good FPS right now, around 50-60. My X300SE is actually a very good card for the money. I can play most current gen games (except BF2) maxed out sans AA and AF. I get plenty of first round stuttering though. I would not mind enduring this same level of stuttering with high textures and 2GB of ram.

I don't really mind not being able to see people as easily. I'd much rather have a great audio/visual experience than to get the advantage over other players.

well as said above the video card plays a huge part especially if you want a good audio visual exp

I have actually done some test runs with maxed settings and noted that my FPS is playable (30fps when whatever area I am in is "loaded") and the visuals look outstanding. The only thing in my way is the damned stuttering which at maxed visuals renders the game into a broken record.

Ok I have a amd 3200+ 64 cpu, 1 gig of ram, and dual 6600GT/TOP 128mb vid cards in sli mode. Running on high I now have fewer problems then when I was running on medium settings, figure that one out.

bitvomit, i have practically the same comp (same Ram same card) as you the only difference is that i have 2.93 P4 cpu but i can only run on low some medium.... what resolution do u run on?

2 gigs of ram will help greatly i had bad stuttering wit 1 gig got the 2nd and not a problem i play on high / mediums and renderer.drawFps 1 i average about 90fps check my sig for specs

I run at 800x. I could run higher resolutions, but the damned stuttering... 800x looks nice either way you shake it.

Extra Ram tends to give you a more even FPS not necessarily a higher FPS. Though that 512MB is probably hurting your system since it's paging to your HDD so much.

wtf! How can you run it with so high settings on 512mb and X300! I run 1gb and X300 and run everything on Medium - Low

Huge difference even between 1 and 1.5 gb RAM
If you do go 2gb, Get a 2x1gb Kit.

Sorry, I made a mistake. Lighting and shadows are both set to low. The game still looks good though. Although I strongly believe I can get alot more out of my X300SE with more ram.
