        well,

when he bought it, it came with the 3800+ and the 2 gigs of RAM. He got the 7800GT as a gift, so cost to him: around $600, which is what he paid for the computer.

This is what I am trying to say:

I don't care what brand components I have, as long as I know it has excellent technical support (which I've had nothing but excellent experiences with Compaq), and when I fire BF2 up (on my friend's comp mind you), it runs smooth on all high settings. I am not taking the risk of building it myself or buy the components off the internet and sending them all to someone for them to put together for me.

I know, that's what I am doing with a Compaq, BUT I know that the components will work together. If something fries while they are putting it together, then Compaq has to replace everything that was damaged or destroyed. I don't have to spend another $83 bucks if my motherboard fries or $200 if the video card is short circuited.

Some companies may offer protection like that, BUT I am not going to take the risk of taking a chance with a small business (I have nothing against them, I work for one as a matter of fact) or a person doing it that offer's said protection.

All hardware comes with a DOA warrenty. Also, if a part in your Compaq fries, it's not necissarily going to be covered 100%. But I know what you mean and that's fine. That's why prebuilts are still going strong in the market. However, you won't be able to get a computer like your friends for $600 with an lcd monitor, keyboard and mouse. It just isn't going to happen. Plus like you said, the videocard was given to him. That's a $300 card. Anyway, different strokes for different folks. The only reason I got into this was because the prebuilt HP I wanted at Circuit City was out of stock and I decided to build my own out of spite.
