It shows up as an axis button. Although i dont use it in BF2. Only IL2. I did find the dead zone you mentioned talus. Should it stay at 0?

No, increase it until you don't get the drift you were mentioning.

The Y Axis the X Axis and the twist are all at 100% on the dead zone and it the planes still drift to the right.

Have you tried unplugging any unnecessary USB devices? e.g. other joysticks, wheels or gamepads?

Only things plugged into the USB are the keyboard and joystick.
