BTW, I have a 3700+, I upgraded from a 3500+, it is a noticable difference.

omfg, if i hear this one more time im going to scream.
its not about extra performance, its about the fact that they are switching to a new platform and new memory.
when you KNOW amd is going to be switching to DDR2 platforms and a new socket, why on earth would you buy a 939 board now? their 90nm socket AM2 processors will be at most ten bucks more expensive than their 939 counterparts.
not to mention it will solve all of the current memory nightmares we are having with dual channel DDR right now. most people who own a 939 with more than a gig in dual channel know what im talking about.

no matter how you look at it, DDR will be obsolete soon, just like SDRAM. sure youll still be able to buy it - just like you can still buy SDRAM (check the prices on it). most people currently have either 2x512 or 4x512 DDR.. and the 512 meg stick of RAM is already becoming obsolete. 2x1024 will be the minimum, with upgradeability to 4x1024, there is no reason to buy DDR 400 right now when you will get DDR2 800 for around the same price when they launch. stick it out for a few more months.

i was all ready to buy an X2 processor and a new 939 board (my abit av8 doesnt give me enough memory voltage options) but now i will bide my time and wait for the new platform. prices will come down by then too - and its not like your current rig isnt 'good enough' until then.

im sure ill take a backlash for this because a lot of people in this forum recently bought 939 systems and they have to justify it. im not saying theyre a bad deal, but why put your money into a system you know will be outdated in a few months? people can argue until theyre blue in the face, but its not going to change the fact that DDR and s939 have their days numbered. and of course they will still be decent systems and some people will use them for years yet - but when you are talking about buying an x2 4400 you are considering a decent investment. if you just want something that will still 'work for a few years' then get a celeron, lol.

personally, im going to wait for the AM2 platform, and probably pick up a cheap 90nm processor at the time along with 2x1024 DDR2 800, and switch to a dual core 65nm and an extra gig when they come out.
