I run my game at 800 by 600 because i have a CRT. With a CRT, higher res. doesnt do anything. And AMD is proven to handle games better than a P4.
    P4 is for software.

Personally, I have a 6600 vanilla, AMD64 3000+, 1 gig of ram and I can play on high. I know,, looking at my system specs, i shouldnt be able to but waht can i say. My computer is like magic.

How the hell can that be????
I have a 6800gt, amd64 3200+ and a 1 gig. I have to play on low and this bitch is glitchy as hell. I just left a game because I couldn't aim anymore.

This **** just doesn't make any fuxking sense.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this statement. I have a P4 Northwood at 3.7Ghz that totally kicks BF2 in it's ass. THe P4 still feels as snappy and fast as an A64, but the key is to keep a clean updated system. My P4 with 2Gb of ram at 460mhz loads a map about 5-10 seconds slower than my dual core Opty, which isn't much.

Re: Going from 2.0 to 3.0GHz

considering going from 2.0 400 fsb to 3.0 800 fsb the increase would be very noticable...

to the person saying they can run on HIGH with 1g of ram, nice try considering everything on high will eat up more than 1g of ram...

            I run a 2.4 @ 3.4ghz and a 6800 ultra everything on high but textures..

you will see a very nice improvement...

OK, I made a decision to upgrade to a 2gig DDR 400 (PC 3200). I asked this same question in IGN BF2 forums and came with the same answers as here so i cancled my order of the 3.0 and got this.

I allready have 2x 512MB (1gb) in my PC and they are PC2700 DDR333. My motherboard supports any ram type but is it good to mix these with 2gig DDR 400 (PC 3200)?? If not I can just sell my PC2700 and play the game better with the 2gig.

Re: Going from 2.0 to 3.0GHz

Well, you may or may not notice any change. Check the Front side buss speed. If they are the same then your still pushing the data through a little opening.

                CPU:
I run a ati 9800 pro. I could only set my comp on med. I changed from 2.7 Celeron with 400FSB with 512 cache, to a 3.2 Pentium 4, 800FSB and a 1 meg cache. This let me run at high settings on single player smooth as silk. Multi player it's a little slow. Sometimes it chops.

                Mem:
I didn't notice that much or a change from 1 to 2 gig. But like you i'm changing my memory. I'm getting 2 sticks of memory that will give me 2g, plus 2 more sticks that will give me 3g total. Maybe your right about slow mem. This new mem i'm ordering is fast.

Re: Going from 2.0 to 3.0GHz

you will notice a big differance

but you need 2GB of ram to run high textures though i have the 6600GT and it is impossible to run BF2 maxed out (that means all settings on high with 4x AA) sure textures and texture filtering and 2x AA is very comfortable but shadows need to be on low or off and lighting medium or lower. ofcourse 1024x768 is probally the best resolution that the 6600GT can handle although i have been able to get away with 1280x1024. Wan't to run all things on high with all maxed settings you will need a 7800GT with decent framerates. Which is usually higher than 40FPS.

Also i do notice that almost everymap i am usually the first one loaded in espically on gulf of oman, nothing like spawning on the carrier and getting to fly whatever you want without racing there :)
