Hmm ill try both dynamic settings at low, I like having shadows, adds to the realism.

It's only on Sharqi peninsulla that the frame rate drops at the construction yard, every other map is fine!

Dynamic lighting doesn't affect your FPS.

i didnt mean turning shadows OFF entirely. but try bumping them from medium to low. according to many tweaking sites it makes little difference but has a large performance impact.

also, your chipset is going to have a huge effect as well. you cant just post FPS results from a 7800gtx turning certain options on and off and expect to have the same results on a 6800gs. with the 7800s advanced architecture and shader handling perhaps some features will have different effects - not to mention that the card itself is significantly more powerful. i may be wrong but i dont think there is a generic formula that will work for everyone.

i see a significant FPS impact with dynamic lights off, yet i notice very little visual difference. i would believe the 1 FPS difference if he tried it and reported it were true, however i wont trust a generic chart that doesnt list the system specs.

it also depends on the map. certain maps rely more on confimed spaces with more textures, others have far more geometry, etc. im sure if you are staring at a wall inside a building on karkand few changes will make much of a difference.
i appreciate your post - and in light of it im going to try messing with my settings some more. but without more data posted an FPS chart like that is useless since it does not include system specs, map @ location, etc.

          Re: Question for Nvidia users...

just got out of a game on dragon valley and karkand.
based on your chart i upped the textures to high. i didnt notice any FPS decrease, even though i only have a 128 meg card. however after playing the gale for 30 min i got a bit nauseous, and on dragon valley especially i am noticing a bit of FPS loss even though the FPS meter is the same.

so i think that the only true way to guage performance would be to run some sortof demo sequence while graphing frame rates.
one setting might not impact you standing at the karkand hotel looking off the balcony, but that same setting might drop your FPS to molasses during an artillery strike, or on another map that overuses a certain shader for example.

since theres no timedemo for BF2 (a shame, really, that a game where there are so many graphics settings combinations and graphics plays such an important role there is no ingame benchmark like FEARs), the only way to judge would be to play through a favorite map for a few levels.. even then it would be pretty subjective.

That graph is made with a time demo.

(See this http://www.overclockers.com.au/article.php?id=384179 article for more information on how to use the timedemo feature, and see this http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=934 Forum thread for more information on recording and playing back demos.)

There is one somewhere. I have to look around. Try this one made by Anandtech for the 1.12 patch:
