Thinking of converting to AMD need advice.

Hi Guy's and gal's I have a Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHZ and I was thinking of making the change over to AMD. I am sceptical though and a little hesitant. Basically I want to know which AMD chip is better than mine? At like what level? I noticed some chips say AMD athlon 3800+ then read it is only 2 ghz or something along those lines? How would I find out what chip is faster than mine? I don't want to buy a mainboard and processor to have the same processing power as I have now. So can anyone tell me a good cheap amd chip to start with that I will see at least some noticeable increase from my intel counterpart. Also preferably one that I can overclock relatively easy.Thanks in advance.

Lets say 200$ around maybe more if it is really worth it. I found a cheap motherboard for 69$

hI thanks it says 2.2 ghz though. DO you think that will be faster than my intel 2.66? because I Think I remember hearing that AMDS have slower frequencies but are faster. in games at least. Does anyone know of any benchmarks to compare AMD to INTEL. I would like to know what AMD ghz is faster than what Intel ghz. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance.

yeah, i have a 3500+ and it supposedly equvalent to a 3.5 P4.

the 3500+ is not equivalent to a 3.5Ghz P4 even though AMD claims it is. but it is close being equivalent to a 3.2-3.3Ghz P4.

The 3500+ would be a nice upgrade from your P4, for gaming at least. Do you do anything else with your computer?

I UHHHHHHH UHHHH game alot? JK I don't really do much else browse the net listen to music occasionally watch a DVD. Gaming is what I do most.

Get a 3800+ X2(Dual Core) processor, you can Overclock it to 4000+ speeds and it is cheeper and good to use for multi-tasking

It'll overclock easily to a 3500+ and itll save you 30-40 bucks. The 3200 Venice is known for its overclocking.

Any AMD 64 will be faster (performance wise) than your current cpu.

The slowest 939 athlon will be faster in gaming than your current p4, and the 3500+ is a nice chip. I'd say its roughly equivalent to a 3.5-3.7ghz p4 in gaming.

I think it would completely be worth it, and that the change should be pretty big, at least in games.
