hang in there buddy.. battlefield 2 is just a **** GAME when it comes to certain areas like.. making the game work.. but you gotta keep it real.. you've got a great computer and battlefield 2 is the only game that's being a bitch so just relax, i know it's frustrating but come on, its just a game

Ok, have you tried a low level format? I'm doing one on Friday as I'm getting terrible lag; MAX FPS = 37.5!!!

Don't give up!!! There has to be a reason for it even if format won't sort it!! If the format won't sort it try to get a computer tech guy to look at your PC.

hi m8y sorry that youre having problems still!!!

        a few q's for you
        1. are you still using the same venicecore prosser that you were using before?
        2.is it still overclocked?
3.how long did you have it overclocked before you got youre new mobo?
(i cant remember and me msn is still giving me trouble so i coundlt get hold of you )
4.from the deafult clock speed of prosser(i.e 2ghz)how mutch %wise did you overclock? before youre new mobo/gfx card

i no this may seem irelivent as i remeber you saying that youre new rig was cool and running smoth ect.

but i just wanted to illiminate one factor, that being that you may of damaged youre prosser proir to upgrading youre mobo.
overclocking with a deault heatsink is a bad idea allthough overcloking does offer a performance gain it also take away the life span of the chip itself.

as overcloking is experimental its impossible to say that a o'c prosser will last a certain amount of time.
        a few things like,
        1.how mutch did i o'c
2.what temps were i geting in game?
3.how long did i o'c with out sufficant cooling.

dont get me wrong im not flaming you,i just try for the most obvious answer, and to me thats the oldest thing in youre cpu(i.e the venice core 3.2(2.4ghz)

i see you have water cooling now (nice job) but unfortunaly it may be too late.
^the above is only a extreme mesure,is it possible for you try out a diffent prosser(lend) and see if you get the same results,if you do then its something else.

oh and a tip for youre nvida card
right click empty space on desktop ,go to properties,settings,advance,7800gt tab,go to the performance and qulity settings and chose high qulity and turn aa and af to application controled, then turn it up ingame
also make sure vsnce is set to off, hope this helps

Well since no one has mentioned it, i will, DRIVERS DRIVERS DRIVERS. It will make you or brake you. And yes ATI picture is a better quality, but, you have to really look to notice it. Again DRIVERS DRIVERS DRIVERS.

Re: Recent ATI to nVidia convert: Some questions about Quality

The only driver issue I may be experiencing now is the fact that I'm using betas for both my videocard and sound card. Everything else is up to date and officially released.

Anyway, in regards to last night's post: I'm not taking back anything I said except for the part about selling my computer. I'll probably never do that (until I've got a newer better one) and certinally wouldn't do it for one game, let alone one PATCH. There might be a hotfix out in a month or so that makes BF2 rock balls.

Plus I seem to have gotten the patch working this morning. At least for BF2. I haven't tried Special Forces yet. I know it's patched because assault nades bounce and my new unlock is there, but I haven't played around much. My last patching did fail however, so I'm not sure whether the game is going to be stable.

I was just generally in a bad mood yesterday amplified by drinking (which actually helps cool me down a little). It was a "straw that broke the camel's back" kinda deal. Hopefully this patching holds, but if not, I'll live and wait until this weekend to figure it out. The most aggrivating part is wasting a whole afternoon after working all day. So I've decided to not put too much interest into the game for the rest of the week.

PS I don't actually have water cooling yet. I think you misread my sig. I'm going to wait until I can design a loop that I'm comfortable with that can handle a sli setup and possibly adds a chiller to the loop.

PPS My processor is still OC @ 2.4ghz. It seems like the best safety OC because it gives me low temps (under 40c with a standard non-gaming load) while keeping my ram unclocked. The videocard is not OC at all (doesn't really need it yet).

Re: Recent ATI to nVidia convert: Some questions about Quality

The answer is simple: it has been argued that ATI has slightly better image quality than nVidia. I have had 5 friends unhappy with their 7800 series cards as a result compared to their lesser ATI cards they replaced.

I have not had an nVidia card since the Gf4 so I cannot honestly say I support these observations, but I can report them.

FACT: default settings for ATI is HQ(high quality), default for nVidia is Q(quality). This is irregardless of ingame settings, it has to do with things like mipmap detail etc. etc.

I believe you are experiencing these lowered detail settings.
                .
                .
                .
16x SLI vs 8x SLI: actually should read 32x vs 16x

I read a recent article that placed the 32x mobos behind the 16x's in tests...it seems we aren't even scraping the surface of 16x...therefore when you run SLI using 8x and 8x on the pci-e slot, there is no missing performance and actually outperformed the special 16x by 16x mobos.

32x outrageously priced mobos are just another PT Barnum dream come true(sucker born every minute)..
                .
                .
                .
AA: ATI has always had 2x, 4x, and 6x AA while nVidia always used 2x, 4x, and 8x.
Take Doom3 for example, ATI user could only selct 2x or 4x...while nVidia users got 2, 4, or 8 because Doom3 did not offer a 6x variable
                .
So with BF2, ATI gets 3 options while nVidia gets stuck with 2. It just depends on the game. You CANNOT select an AA variable that your card cannot do.

This is what i make of it, LOOK AT THE DATES ON THE ARTICLES, so what you want me to go cry about it. Maybe they did, that's the point of drivers to optimised the hardware. Mistakes are made.

WTF? I was agreeing with you dude!
From your reaction it seems you feel I've insulted your card? Im not trying to dis anyones card.. I have a 6800gt!! so it affects me too.. I was merely adding another dimension to the discussion...
You think the dates are really relevant?
like.. You suspect the drivers in this article were the ones used just when the new cards came on the market just to ensure they could whoop the ATI cards.. ?? Kinda shady If it was..

Sorry if Ive detracted from the post.. I didnt mean to go down the whole Nvidea V's ATI road...

Re: Recent ATI to nVidia convert: Some questions about Quality

                          Good news! Finally!

I read the Tweakguides Forceware guide and played around with forceware settings. I never really had to do that with ATI. I'm not saying that makes it worse, but the results are what speak, not how I got there. Anyway, in the end, playing around inside the forceware settings is a lot easier and user friendly then trying to hack my way around ATI. Again, not saying you have to hack ATI to make it work, I'm just going by my own past experience. Anywho...

I turned AA off inside BF2 and put it at standard 4XAA in Forceware. I turned AF on in forceware but wasn't sure how to turn it off in BF2. The game looked great, but was stuttery when I looked around (with the mouse) and my fps was very sporatic, sometimes dropping down into the thirties. So I put AF to "Application Controlled", and with 1600x1200 resolution, the game LOOKS great and there is NO aliasing. It's smooth, all the textures are there, there's depth, everything is great. Now I just need to perfect my XFI sounds (still crackling a little).

Some other settings I played around with are:

                          force mipmaps: bilinear
                          Conformant texture clamp: on
                          trilinear optimization: off
                          anistrophic mip filter optimization: off
                          anistrophic sample optimization: off
                          Gamma correct antialliasing: on
                          transparent antialiasing: supersampling
                          triple buffering: off
                          negative LOD bias: allow

max frames to render ahead dropped down to 2 from 3

                          and overclocked to 470/1.2ghz.

AF inside BF2 is labled as "Texture Filtering"...that's what your looking for to turn it off.
                            .
                            .
                            .
I didn't mean to knock the card or nVidia in my last reply, I was just pointing out there are definately subtle differences between the two companies(ATI/nV).

Of course it looks great, you have a nasty system :)
