They should be totally clean, then you need to re-apply the thermal paste, then apply the heatsink.

For cleaning the old paste off I highly reccomend this

Use 90% + alcohol.

If you use less than 90% make sure you give it plenty of time to dry. Maybe even hit it with the hair dryer after.

Yeah 90%+ alcahol will work, but the Arctic Clean works soooooo much better. It's worth every penny.

Yeah it works great, but I was just suggesting something he may have lying around or could pick up at the corner store. I'm sure he doesn't want to wait a week for delivery.

I get mine from a pharmacy type store. Examples in the US would be CVS, Eckerd, Walgreens, etc. Like I said 70% will do, but you need to make sure it's totally dry before you reinstall it.
