Just wondering if anyone uses either of these to play, and if so what do you think? Good? Bad? Mediocre?

I just got the G5, and it's very nice but not earth-shatteringly better than the MX518 I used to use. Has these amazingly ghey little weights in a tin that you're supposed to place in a tray to affect the "balance" of the mouse. Silly BS - the thing's on a flat surface, there's no balance issue.
But it does have a nifty little switch to change the DPI of the mouse - in other words, to change its speed, which is pretty cool. I dislike the lack of two left side buttons, like on the MX518 I was using before. There's only one now, and the tiltable mouse-wheel won't map into the game, so it's another useless feature, like those silly little weights.
The MX518 has a smoother feeling on the black parts, while the G5 is rougher, more like sandpaper. But the G5 does seem a lot smoother and more precise in its movement, which is an aiming help for me.
If you look at my stats *cough*, you'll see that I can use all the help I can get when it comes to just about everything in this damn game, and sometimes it seems like this new mouse makes me just a tad faster on target, before the other guy with the crappy mouse kills me just the same as before. (I'm the king of leaving people with two bars of health, while I'm looking at the sky.) -

Yeah changing the DPI in game sounded really useful. I'm glad to hear that you prefer it over the MX518.
For some strange reason Staples is pulling all G7's from it's shelves (at least in Canada), and as such is selling them at a discounted price ($89 Can). I just ordered one from their website because all the stores where I live had sent them back to Logitech.Comment

I'm using a G7, and I'm very happy with it. The on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment is great! You can speed it up for sniping or tanks, and slow it back down for infantry. Very usefull indeed. It is not true that you can't map the tilt wheel buttons. True, you can't map them directly to an in-game function, but you can map it to a keystroke using the Logitech software. The usb powered battery charger and extra battery pack is a much better system than other cordless mice that have to sit in a charger cradle.
The G7 is definitely worth the money.Comment

I use the G5. Have for hmmmm since it became available. Like it allot. But I did upgrade from a standard MS optical to this. So I don't have much to compare to. I do miss having two left side buttons. But I just reprogram the tilt wheel for two functions, pistol and grenade. Left side button for knife.
Adjustable optical settings are great. You can have up to five preset. And then adjust on the fly. But I have tried setting the highest of the five to 2000dpi and that is way to sensitive. 1700 seems about right in a tank turret when you need to move the main gun to get on target fast but not over shoot. Just got to remember to adjust back down fast when you jump out. Otherwise you are all over trying to get on target.
I keep the middle setting at 1100 dpi and play at that most all the time except for sniping then I lower it just a tad.Comment

I got a G5 because I had a POS 10 dollar mouse. G5 looked sweet so I got it. You can add the weights to make it heavier or lighter which is cool. It's really comfortable also and has nifty little buttons.Comment

I had to go cordless after wearing out the cords on two mice. My beloved boomslang 2000... such a waste. The way my desk is setup, it stresses the cord a lot.Originally posted by SargeJp

actually you speed it up for tanks and slow it down for sniping but anyways its a great mouse and i most def. recommend it. I got a G5, it's a brilliant mouse, simply the best gaming mouse at the moment. The G7 is the best cordless mouse, but I would go for a wired mouse in case of gaming.Comment

Cordless mice are too heavy for me. I prefer very light mice for quick movements since I play with a very low sensitivity for percision aiming.
The G5 is a great mouse. The bottom is excellent and smother than any aftermaket mousefeet on the market.Comment
