Looking for a good prosesor sink and fan-

Hey guys, well i have a 3.2ghz p4 (LGA 775) and i have the regular fan and heatsink that came with it, and ive heard that i realy should get a better one, like a thermaltake , or a zalman.

Can anyone tell me if i need to get one, and if so, what is the best bang for the buck setup?

do a search on newegg.com for the blue orb 2. I have heard great things about that fan/heatsink and i plan on buying it. FYI i think the price is around 40$ USD

personally I would just put arctic silver 5 in.
Just clean off the heat sink in the Processor and then apply the stuff.
Adding this alone could make a 5C decrease in temp.
If you want more then that, try optimizing your airflow abit. Maybe a better fan, personally the normal heatsinks are good enough.

Also, i will say that the Prescott processors are armored, they run HOT!
62C or so is normal for them.

Yea, i have a presscot, i realy am not having any problems with this as it is- but i dont want it to burn out- my case is pretty good, its an axpire xnavigator, lots of airflow near the prosesor. Know any good programs to check my temps?

p.s. i found the blue orb II , i think i might get this. But then again i dont know because im reading the reviews and dosent sound to good.

Get watercooling, works better than stock air coolers... And its alot quieter too

AS5 is the best thermal compound you can find

you should be able to get your CPU up to 3.4 GHZ i have mine overclocked from 3.0 to 3.2 on stock cooling and it does not get that hot, infact playing BF2 i will prolly reach temps around 40C. Gotta love that nice cold maine air :)

you might check out motherboard monitor its a tray app and give you live temps, if you have a mobo thats supported.



also the thermalright xp-90 cooler is what i use, works great.

I use a cheapo Copper copy of the stock heatsink, with an extra 80mm fan attached to the aftermarket fan. Lowered my Idle to 28*C and load to 45*C when the case temps are at 75*F. Total cost for those two was like 25 bucks, and you don't have to remove the motherboard to install any of it. Quick and cheap.:p

If you want the best way to cool your cpu, do the following:
1.)open your case (make sure you turn the power off 1st)
2.)remove existing motherboard (remove your power cables, memory, and all pci, agp/pcie cards 1st) unbolt it
3.)insert a 939 socket Mobo, bolt it down
4.)insert ANY AMD 939 based CPU, affix stock cooling unit (AMD runs 20-30% cooler than Intel)
5.)insert memory, power cables, cards, etc.
<P>Reinstall O/S (you will have to since the Nforce and Via chipsets are too different from the Intel chippies)
and ENJOY a cool running, high performance PC for a change:laugh:

I have the same cpu as you, also same case, if you are not going to Oc dont bother, i have the gigabyte PRO Rocket cooler, the house sits about 72 degrees, and at iddle the CPU is like at 32 to 33, under load, i might hit 45
