    RAM Questions

Ok, I'm looking to update my RAM from 512mb to 1-1.5gb today.

    My current RAM is

    2 265mb Corsair DDR 333mhz chips (PC2700 I think)

My question is, what should i get now? I have 2 more slots, is it bad to mix 2 256mb with 1 512mb additionally?

And another issue, the excact same chipset that i have, just with 512 instead of 256 is:

    512MB DDR333, 184pin, PC2700, 333MHz, CL2,5, Corsair Value Select is priced 5,990 ($97)

    while:

    512MB DDR400, 184pin, PC3200, 400MHz, CL3, Corsair Value Select is priced 4,990 ($81)

The cheaper one appears to be better, but will I gain anything from it, since my other RAM chips are 333MHz ?

    Re: RAM Questions

Your best option is to just save up a little bit more and get 2X1GB on RAM instead. Having odd amounts of RAM won't allow you to run dual channel either. Just save up a little longer and get 2GB if your mobo allows it, which it should.

            Re: RAM Questions

You need to try to keep you ram in even pairs and matched. Ditch the 256 sticks and save up for 2x1GB or 2x512, so you can run in dual channel mode.

                Re: RAM Questions

I was thinking about buying 2 more 256mb ones, I only need 1gb of RAM, BF2 runs just fine under 512, it's just so i can run more programs at the same time.

I can still run it in 2x dual channel if i have 4 256mb ones right?

                  *BUMP*

Ok, I ended up buying 2 more 256mb chips, so now i have 1 gb in dual channel mode.

Now, any good system changes to do so it will run smoother? Because desktop feels the same.

                    Re: RAM Questions

Well the desktop doesn't always get smoother if u have kept your computer in good shape. Althought you should see a little bit of change when running multiple programs.

Now my computer just freezes after x amount of time, and the monitor goes in power safe mode.

                      PSU problems maybe?

I have a built in X300 which is inactive and a X300SE in PCI-E slot that I'm using (I'm not 110% sure if it's not vica versa ).

I just saw, using my old RAM chips, that both of them are clocked 166mhz, but they are DDR333 (should be...)
