    AMD 3400+ Running at 804Mhz???

I have built a system for my son, the mobo is a K8N4-E deluxe, I put it all together and booted up only to find the AMD 64 3400 was only running at 804mhz. The funny thing is that if I reset cmos the cpu is running at full speed (2400) and as soon as the bios completes post and moves onto windows the cpu is reverted to 804mhz. I know its not the chip, I've reinstalled it into the old mobo and is fine, I've updated to the newest version of bios (1010) changed the hard drive all to no avail. As soon as I reboot and then go into setup the cpu configuration reports the cpu at 804mhz, I can increase the speed by overclocking but to try and get the cpu to its original speed the system becomes too unstabe.

    Am I missing something obvious.

Someone help me please my thirteen year old son saved for a year to buy himself a new mobo and a 7800gtx for his games and hes so dissapointed.

By the way I swapped out the 7800 aswell

You most likely got a crap motherboard or CPU, one of both is definitely not proper.

I wish i had a dad like that... he doesnt even show up for my birthday but that's a different story :P... mate i've got the same proc just download speedswitch... it's probably the cool 'n quiet ****.... speedswitch download that and then you can put it to dynamic switching and max performance... so for gaming go to Da max and on the desktop dynamic switchin' .... let me know if it works..

Isn't 3400+ supposed to run 2200mhz (not 2400)? Or do you have the older 754-pin version which should run at 2400mhz?

But I had a similar problem. My CPU was running only 1ghz at the beginning. I downloaded the newest drivers from AMD's website and the clock speed rose up to 2,2ghz. It was the Cool'n Quiet what was doing that. I think you can turn Cool'n Quiet off from the BIOS also?

That is only attempting to put a band-aid on the problem...certainly not what I would recommend.

Are you SURE you have the BIOS settings configured correctly?
Did you use the 'Reset to Defaults' option and save those settings after updating the BIOS?

If the speed is reset in the BIOS .. then updating drivers in Windows won't fix a thing.

You need to make sure your BIOS is set up properly first.

Did you read my above post re: Reset to Default?

iv reset cmos and that identifies the chip correctly but as soon as it starts to boot it gets reduced to 804Mhz

                          Hehe..k thanks.

Now, let's make sure you set up the frequencies and multipliers properly.

Is there an option to set up all of the frequencies and multipliers to AUTOMATIC?
