Im tired of fooling with it, I'm just throwing my whole computer out the window....

Last night, one of my RAID driver files goes corrupt, rather that repair it, I've been planning on a new mobo for awhile, so I just go buy a new MOBO and start over again.

So I go get a BFG Nforce4 board, figured I'd try it out, if I didn't like it I'd return it later. So I pull all my watercooling stuff out, change MOBOs, put all my watercooling stuff back in, re-apply AS5 and all that good start. Fire it up, beep.... No picture.... Spend awhile troubleshooting, decide screw it and go return it. I pull out all my watercooling stuff, remove MOBO, go return it. Then they tell me the I/O sheild is missing, so I drive all the way back home, get it and come back.

This time I pick out a nice Asus A8n SLI-D. It's what I had wanted to get in the first place, but I decided I'd try out the BFG just for the hell of it. SO I get the ASUS in, put all my watercooling stuff in, apply AS5, fire it up... Good I get a picture this time... Go into the BIOS and set up my RAID array, save and exit, restart....It hangs..... Clear CMOS, go into BIOS change options, save & exit, restart.... Same thing.... Ok, great.... I all ASUS tech support, they say the CMOS battery is probably dead, or the CMOS or BIOS is corrupt... So I go get a new battery, clear the cmos, fire it up. Same thing. At this point I am livid, as I have speant roughly 10 hours working on this. So I go into their built in BIOS flashing utility to try to flash the BIOS, and I get a nice "BIOS corrupt, cannot update" message.

So now I am throwing this peice of **** out the window... If anyone wants a new computer it will be laying in my back yard....

Believe me, I know how you feel. You've actually made my day by making me not feel like a complete idiot. At least I'm not the only one who spent all weekend trying to get seemingly easy stuff to work properly.

My main problem has been with getting a sound card to work. I bought an X-FI Platinum (same as the Fatal1ty but minus the xram, according to newegg.com) and everything set up fine, but after playing BF2 for about 45 minutes the sound degraded to the point where I couldn't even play. I spent the weekend uninstalling, reinstalling, troubleshooting, changing settings in my BIOS, basically I did everything that Creative and the Creative forums suggested, shy of turning of acpi (just seems like a really really bad idea), and turning down my graphics hardware accelerator (I don't see why I should have to degrade my videocard in order to make my sound work, but I don't know much about that setting yet to really be sure that's what would happen).

But this is just the latest problem with my computer. The more I learn about the hardware, the more I find out that there are dozens of things to test, that some settings work for some people and not for others, and liek this sound problem I'm having... I have to play for an hour before the problems starts so I have to wait that long to see if each change has fixed the problem.

Personally I've decided to not give up on the sound card. I'm putting all upgrades on hold until I figure it out. Hopefully you figure out your problem. Best of luck!

The thing to top it all off it that the ASUS was the last one they had in stock... ASUS tech support is based about 2 hours awa in Louisville, so hopefully I can get a pretty quick turnaround on an RMA. Maybe it caould be as simple as mailing me a new BIOS IC chip, but it probaby won't be that easy.

Well okay, Im sorry to hear I have been having problems too. Since this was my first build, I was praying it would work. my mobo is small and I do not like it (even though it performs well). So, latly I just got my second SLi card back, and I have been having MAJOR driver issues. I am using the 6.53 chipset drivers because when I install any drivers above that, I blue scrren after about 2 minutes of computer usage.
I just FINALLY installed service pack 2 because previously it would not install and just crash. I did this because I wanted to get a new x-fi card. Anyway, I have in the past day, installed reinstalled and rebooted with new drivers and chipset drivers about 30 times. My 3dmark score went down about 400, and its really annoying because I stil cant ALT+TAB during SLi mode. I though the SP2 and the new chipset drivers would help, guess not -_-. I also have been having other issues. I think its my mobo...not sure. Anyways:
I wanted to build a ultimate new computer (silly idea but w/e) It would consist of the MSI SLi 16x motherboard, 2 gigs of XMS ram, 3700+, 7800GT, OR GTX, and would hope for SLi, 200 gigs of harddrive. And a muchh better case. Plus a nice sound card.

Yeah, I called and anked about that but they wouldn't let me. I'm just going to order one from newegg and have it overnighted, hopefully this one won't be bad.

Building a PC can be a very very nice test for your patience, I had a simular story with an ASUS board, and all togheter IT WASN"T THE BOARD!!!!!!!! or not completely the board

So I get all my new stuff at home, ASUS a8N-SLI MOBO, new ram sticks, new vid card, ...

Put it nicely togheter, start up, and nothing, no beeb, no screen, no nothing, only a green light on the mobo , I am like WTF

CMOS reset, still nothing.

pick out some RAM sticks, and AHA , I get beep and visual .

But I get many beep and I get a BIOS ERROR before I could do anything.

OK, lets flash, start flashing, get error, BIOS chip writing failed , I AM LIKE OMFG OMFG OMFG.....

many many hours later, still same message .

Then it came to me, for flashing the BIOS the mobo uses the ram memory as storage medium , and I was right, there was the error, the both sticks I got send where corrupt, this way the BIOS could not be flashed because it couldn't write to the RAM and BACK, with my old RAM sticks the BIOS could be flashed and problem was gone (I thought )

I got new RAM sticks, put them into the mobo, and problems start all over again.

Apparently, some RAM sticks don't work very good in an ASUS mobo.

bought other RAM sticks, and all works fine.
