yes that is true, don't wanna sound like a broken record or anything but 2 GB of ram really help.

Ya, that's my first planned upgrade, second up is a new GPU. 2 gigs of value ram can do real good, and it can perform better for loading times than 1.5gigs of performance ram, but overclocking with vlaue ram. :hmm:

I also have a 6600gt, and I can play high/medium with 1024x768 x2AA. If your getting pauses it is probably because of RAM. I use to have 1 gigabyte of ram and it would be really jerky, not like FPS lag but total freeze for just like 1/2 second. I got another 1/2 gig and now its been just fine. Im not sure how much of a boost youd get from 6600gt-6800gs but 6600gt-7800gt would be a big boost. Like I said, this stuttering might be because of ram though.

Well, basically, in older terms, an upgrade from 6600GT to a 6800GS is like an upgrade from 6600GT to a 6800GT. It's a PRETTY big upgrade, not that big. Anyways, i would go for it, they're only 190 bucks on newegg.com .

So your saying if you put textures on high ... (for example, my fps is still 40-60 but I get a ton of choppiness) its not choppy ever since the upgrade from 1 gig?

i side with the other 6600GT users.

if you are experiencing choppiness, than it is either some other part of your computer or youre trying to run settings to high (ie high textures with 1 gigabyte of ram, that will NEVER WORK, and will always be laggy despite your graphics card

and about the loading times, i have tested with all settings high except textures on medium, and this is what i got with this comp

so with 6800 GS and 1.5 gb of ram that would be the key for high settings?

Yea im sure you will not be able to overclock much with value ram, although who really needs to anyway.

as long as you have atleast 1.5GB of ram 2GB would be better.

If you want to run high textures, youd want 1.5+ of ram. My 6600gt can handle high textures video card wise.

SFR-Maine, just curious, what drivers are you using for your 6600gt? With my 6600gt @ 550/1100 I can only get about 3900 on 3dmark05. I have 3ghz P4 and 1 1/2 gigs of ram.
