Hey guys, I have a PCI-E 6600 gt 128 mb.... I can't run bf2 on full settings without the choppiness... usually this lasts ocassionally through the whole round .. for example... jets crashing into the ground... it pauses there. Now... I wanted to know if upgrading to a 6800 GS would make all the difference... My dad says teh computer geek that put together my computer ( I got it custom built at a comp store) said the 6600 gt would be all my need, my dad sides with the geek, he won't listen to anything I say about the opinions of the members here on TBF2... is it worth the buy? Thanks ohh btw my specs are AMD Athlon +3500 .. 1 gb of ram .. 6600 gt Thanks!

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
there is quite a diff between 6600 and 6800 gs since the gs came out recently. if u have the money go for 6800 gs or even better a 7800gt. 6600gt is known to be a mid/budget card (its somewhat cheap and runs bf2 decently on medium), so if money isnt a probem, 6800gs

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
Thanks for the quick reply :) Since this is the hardware forum... and I don't want to make a new post.. I think my pc is overheating... it doesen't occur msuch in BF2.. but random white triangles pop up and the end of all of them leds to the center of the screen, I can turn and it goes away.. but in Half Life 2... the qwhole screen may go black and whole textures tend to change into striped things like zebras... creepy...
Is newegg the best place to get it? I won't really be buying it.. my parents will... 13th bday ftw! lol ... I just got a 1000 comp for christmas and I am trying not to rip them of their money, thanks

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
newegg is just one of many places to check..
theres other places like:
Since 1999, we've paid our members over $4.6 Billion in Cash Back. Join now for an extra 10% Cash Back boost. Shop 3,500+ stores using coupons or cash back!
and if worst comes to worst..try ebay
and there are many ways to cool ur comptuer, but try underclocking ur videocard if it is already overclocked...especially since its winter right now and comps dont overheat as much...if underclocking doesnt help alot, open up ur case and vacuum the dust and stuff, also try leaving the case open and putting a fan facing the comp's side (i dont believe it is dangerous to open ur case unless u have a bunch of pets or something that can hit the inside of ur computer.
also make sure everything is correclty placed in ur computer and that ur fans are working and theres a fan over ur heatsink..

I'm not sure if I have a cooler or not.. but it's circular shaped and it sends off an orange light that lights the inside of my comp ...

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
lol..does it blow air (probably), but if u dont have a fan, theres ur #1 problem. without a fan, a heatsink is useless, so go get one

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
yeah it does blow air I can feel it because there is a bunch of little holes in it (,eant to be there) that you can feel the air if you put your hand on the outside where it is... OH CRAP? I have a cooler yet I have overheating problems? ...........

Re: 6600gt to 6800 GS?
wat kind of motherboard do u have? if u have one from intel, i believe u can get this
http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/active.htm
it just measures ur temperature and tells u if ur overheating (but i wouldnt keep this program long, i found it kindof useless after a while)

i would say 7800gt, even though the 6800gs is good, the GT is only 300$ and much better and more future proof.

I believe u, but one thing, the reason that u load maps quick is cause u have 2 gigs of nice fast memory, not cause u have a OCed 6600GT.Originally posted by SFR-MAINEi can BF2 awsome with most settings high and some medium, no lag at all and i am usually one of the first to load into a 64 player map :)
