    Re: Bye bye ATI...HELLO NVIDIA~!!!

it could be your onboard sound ive got bad problems with my onboard sound which is also Realtek (AC97) try disabling you sound alltogether and see how the game runs then.

its just a suggestion but i put an SB live card in and my game improved a bit and ive also see others with very bad lag problems who have the AC97 onboard sound.

try it see if it helps then you will know if its your sound

A 6800gt is a decent card, but I don't think you can realistically expect to get FULL settings out of such a graphics-heavy game as BF2, especially with your other hardware. 1gig of RAM ,as others have said, just doesnt cut it.if you want full setting get another gig of RAM and another 6800gt and do SLi :-D

          Re: Bye bye ATI...HELLO NVIDIA~!!!

Instructions how to play on ultra high settings, trust me it works:

          - get killdisk, a low-level format utility, it makes your harddrive brand-new, instead of a normal format which only erases your directory structure pointing to the data.

          - install xp again

          - get all the latest drivers for your soundcard and other stuff you have running except the gfx drivers, because I've the best ones available, specially tweaked

          - install all drivers except the gfx drivers

          - Go to www.tweaksrus.com and download the G-Xtreme drivers version 77.62b , install them, during install select 6 series, and see, you are playing at max settings between 60-100 fps.

          IT WORKS! GARUANTEED!

No need for extra Ram, 1 GB is enough, I've tweaked BF2 to death, it works, and just thank me when you got it running as I described.

One note, did you plug in the xtra power cable to your gfx card?

          The best, enjoy.

          Cheers

              Re: Bye bye ATI...HELLO NVIDIA~!!!

              Blood,

I know how you feel, I just dropped $400 on an ATI X850XT PE to replace my ATI 9800pro and I am equally dissapointed. I ran my 9800pro on mostly high with medium shadows and lighting, no AA or AF and It was smooth enough. It would slow down on some 64man serveres and on Iron Gator.

My new X850XT allowed me to bump up my resolution to 1280x1024 with 4x AA and high AF but I only run 30-40FPS and down to 20FPS inside the hull of the Iron Gator.

I have 2 gigs of ram, got my second gig while I had the 9800pro and I was very happy with the improvement. It felt smoother and load times are lightening fast, unfortunately I didn't watch my FPS back then so I have no idea what difference it made to my FPS.

Looking back, the $100 I spent on the extra gig increased my game quality about as much as the $400 I spent on the new card. I am dissapointed with my FPS.

Oh, my 3DMark05 score did go from 2724 to 6045 with the new card so it must have done something!

You should run 3DMark05, it wont fix anything but it will give us an idea if there is something seriously wrong with your setup since we know that your rig should score around 6000 +/- 500.

I dont have a sound card. or maybe i do its called RealTek
Sound settings are on Medium and Software.
An AC97 onboard sound chip will not help performance, but if that's all you have to work with, make sure your mainboard and AC97 drivers are the latest. Also try disabling VOIP and in your Win XP sound and audio control panel, move the hardware acceleration slider to "basic acceleration". See if any or all those things improve sound performance and fps.

As I've previously posted, an extra 1GB will help a lot (I see you've decided to go for it...), and if you've got some extra spare cash, invest in at least a Creative Audigy 2ZS sound card.

                      lol

I run BF2 high w/o AA with my 7800GT and get 20-40 FPS on Karkand. Nothing I do seems to make it better...what a waste of money

Look, I just SLI'ed 2 6800GS OCed together and I run everything at high except textures, becuase apparantly 2x GPUS and 512mb of DDR3 Video Ram will still not placate the evil graphics god that lives in the belly of BF2 turn AA down to 2x crank Draw Distance to 95% and my last piece of advice: GET RID OF YOUR INTEL CHIP! THAT IS WHAT IS HOLDING YOU BACK!

I have a similar problem and so did this redrider guy. I get 25 fps pretty often, and the fps rarley goes above 40 at the southernmost flag on Karkand. Redrider found out that his processor was getting too hot, and I think mine may be too, as it gets to 70 degrees sometimes.
Search on google for speedfan, download it, and see whet your processor's temps are while running BF2.
