Well, why don't u try putting the side one to intake, and get a very powerful one for intake, since u have 3 other exhaust fans (If u include the PSU that is), also, the 'best' config for fans as said by many people is one intake fan at the lower front of ur case, one low side intake fan (low cause then the GPU will get nice fresh, cool air) and a exhaust fan at the top of case, and one exhaust fan in the upper back. Anyways, u get pretty hot temps, considering that i run my X800XL at idle with only 30C, and load at 48C, all with stock cooling.

i actually tried the side fan as an intake so that it would be blowing cool air over the GPU, but i ended up with slightly higher peak temperatures (about 4-5 °C). it's probably just due to my particular scenario. the back fan is at the same height as the CPU and the side fan is at a level between the CPU and the GPU. the top fan is at the exact center. i have tried to keep my wiring as neat as possible so that the interference with airflow is at a minimum. but this setup gives me the lowest temperatures.

i'm not sure about the x800xl, but according to the anandtech and THG forums, my GPU temperature is normal and the CPU temperature that i see is actually lower than most people.

Ya, i know, ur CPU is pretty cool for a prescott. Also, it could be the fact that u run a prescott in ur rig that ur GPU is getting hot, i've heard reports of that a lot.

yeah, you're right. i've been thinking of going for liquid cooling to further reduce the CPU temperature, and i've been looking for this ever since THG did a review :

i like this one because it's really compact and it's closed-system so no refills are required (provided it doesn't develop any leaks). i don't understand why it's so hard to find a retailer that has it for sale. the company probably needs to improve on marketing.

hmmm mine idles at around 42,43.....and maybe about 49,51 in like 28 man server (HL2), full blast.....plus im about 10 points above stock settings(trying out OC'ing)...id say this is pretty good....im looking for a second opinion, so how is that temp?

TekHeads are better than OcUK :)
This is a list of graphics coolers. The coolers you want to consider are:

1. Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7 GPU Cooler £28
   Looks the best (red led etc), cools great.
2. Arctic Cooling nVidia (7800/6800) VGA Silencer 5 (Rev3) £17
   I think this is the most common after-market cooler.
3. Zalman VF700-Cu GPU Cooler £22
   Basically the fata1ity minus the LEDs.

I run my core (see sig) extremely overclocked (anywhere from 500-530 depending on the game... FEAR gets 558 lol) and my temps in game can reach upto 92 (when overclocked that high!), and I have a well cooled case! You've got a 7800GTX like me, so your temperature warning sign should be the same as mine: 115C.

So you should really start worrying when you get close to that mark! As a safe bet I'd say try and stay well below 80 if you are at stock settings. Your temp is fine.

I wouldnt worry about your temperatures. The only reason you should replace your cooler is if you are unhappy with the current noise (my stock cooler is a noisy one!) or if you want/need cooler temps.

My next purchase will be the Fatal1ty FS-V7 as i think it looks slick. If I wasnt bothered about looks I'd go for the nvSilencer or the cheaper Zalman. I believe there's a Gigabyte cooler somewhere... but these are my recommendations.

ALSO; if you purchase an after market cooler I recommend your purchase some Arctic Silver 5 and a cpu cleaner (like AKASA's TIM Cleaner). Spending the extra on AS5 will drop temps 3-9degrees.

PS-the coolers listed above are not suitable for SLI configs. I doubt you're getting into that though anytime soon? If so stick with stock and upgrade ventilation (fans, cabling) and/or your case. Water is the best solution for cooling your gpu's though... but i daren't touch that!

Are all of your fans are exhausts? That will create a vacuum in the case (or to that effect). You want air circulation. Try and get a 50/50 balance of exhausts and intakes. Usually cases these days have optional fans at the front of the case to act as intakes. Any such luck on yours?

yeah WE, they are all exhausts. and you're right, that will create a vacuum (atleast a lower pressure inside the case than outside), but then the case is not hermetically sealed, so that low pressure will suck in fresh air anyway. i also don't have a fan in the front. but i've tried all sorts of combinations using the fans as intakes and exhausts, and i've found that i get the lowest case/CPU/GPU temperatures with all the fans as exhausts. if i did have a front intake fan, i'm willing to bet the peak temperatures might drop a bit, but unfortunately i don't. thanks for the input though. :)

Ya, i'm not saying u didn't do the wrong thing, i remember how many times i got flamed for not reading carefully lol (like about 500 times so far). Anyways, ya, the Arctic silencer is a good one, also, if u have a window on ur case, the Fata1ity looks awesome, although i prefer the normal VF-700-CU with LED, cause i prefer the orangish copper color of the blood red Fata1ity.

EDIT: Anyways srry, i was a bit grumpy for a few minutes back then.
