      Flanker, that's some bad advice. Motherboards have a lot to do with overclocking. It's just as important as the CPU, memory and PSU.

        Re: AMD 3400+ @ 2.2 will bottleneck 7800Gtx?

        How can you say that? Have you used every motherboard out there and come to a conclusion?

        I've used $50 motherboards that have sent the CPU soaring from 1.8GHz to 2.8Ghz. I hate it when people say, "That motherboard will get you to 2.4GHz, but 2.6GHz might be hard." That has freakin nothing to do with the motherboard, thats all about the CPU and how much it can take.

        I have friends on Lanparty Ultra-Ds that're stuck a 2.52 and 2.60GHz with the 3200+ Venices. Then I have a friend on a $50 no-name motherboard who's CPU I overclocked from 1.8GHz to 2.8GHz. And I'm on a $95 Via Chipset motherboard. I've gotten one of the highest overclocks of this generation of Venices (this CPU is stable at 2.95GHz on DICE).

        So no, motherboard don't have much at all to do with overclocking. Chipset does, yes, but the motherboard as a whole? No.

            If I were to do it personally, I'd take far too long. But I do have guides for you. Read them in the order I post them and you shouldn't have any problem overclocking your system;

            Excellent Basic Overclocking Explanation, very good and very useful;

            Simple 1-2-3 Overclocking Guide. Heres the catch; you need to have read the other two to understand what to do here;

                  Flanker, I am amazed at your constant bad advise. First 95% of XFX cards are going to be broken right out of the box, then motherboards have nothing to do with overclocking?:laugh: I don't know much about computers relative to most people, but I know enough to realize that you're full of Bat squeeze.

                  Has anyone owned every motherboard out there? Of course not. I have owned 4 in the past few months. My Asrock board's vcore couldn't go past 1.45v because the bios had no options for higher voltage. The max overclock anyone ever achieved with a 939 Venice without hardmodding the board was about 2.4ghz.

                  Next I got an MSI K8n Neo4. It would fail Prime95 in 30 seconds after going from 2.2ghz to 2.3ghz, no matter what combination of tuning I tried.

                  I finally got my BFG tech Nforce4 Ultra and it immediately overclocked the exact same hardware off of the other two boards up to 2.6ghz (haven't even tried any higher) and the ram up to 474mhz, and it passed an overnight prime95 test.

                  Point in case, you're wrong.

                          Dude, if u overclock, u want a nice chipset on ur mobo. Overclocking probably depends on memory more than anything else. Anyways, he already said, a different chipset will help u overclock some more. Dude, Flanker knows prob more than anyone here about hardware. The most u'll ever see a difference in for two mobos with the same chipset is like .1ghz, that's pathetic. People buy great mobos like the DFI lanparty series cause of the BIOs options.

                          EDIT: Anyways ya, a mod will give u a couple of notices to shorten ur sig Jimmy. If u don't comply, they'll just remove ur whole sig until u decide to make it smaller.

                                I said 5% of XFX cards would fail in the first 6 months of their operation. Compared to .1% of eVGA cards that would fail in the same amount of time. The failure rate for XFX is then 50x that of a more reliable brand like eVGA. Get your accusations right, mmkay?

                                Tried flashing the BIOS to the latest version?

                                That again has NOTHING to do with your motherboard. Prime95 tests CPU stability. Ask any overclocker worth his AS5 on the planet. Go over to XS or OC Forums and ask them if that has anything to do with motherboard. You probably didn't give it enough voltage.

                                That aside, the MSI K8N Neo4s are considered to be some of the best overclocking motherboards out there.

                                So you finally learned how to overclock, good for you.
