OKAY ... HERES 3 MORE QUESTIONS THAT I MUST HAVE ANSWERED IN LESS THAN A WEEK
1. Is there ANY downside to buying 1 Gb RAM(1x1024) with a 2 Gb Max Motherboard as opposed to 4 Gb Max Mobo with 2x512 Ram?
2. Should I invest more into my processor (currently 3200+) or more into my video card (currently x800gto)

1. Personally I'd buy a 4GB max mobo with 2x1024GB running dual channel. This leaves room for future ram upgrades. Corsair Value Select is decent budget ram. It doesn't overclock very well but it is otherwise stable and will run at 2.5-3-3-7 timings.Originally posted by shadow_vision
2. The socket 939 venice core 3200+ overclocks easily without getting hot. You should be able to reach 2.4ghz or more before you'll need to consider a third party cooling solution. If you're on a budget it's a good chip.
Some of the X800GTO cards (with R480 cores) can have the pipelines unlocked, plus the with the usual core and ram overclock, turns this into an 850XT. Apparently the Sapphire X800GTO is the most reliable unlock and overclocker. Some Googling should get you definite answers before you purchase.
Otherwise, another consideration is the latest mid range budget card from Nvidia, the 6800GS. This overclocks and matches the 6800GT in performance.
3. If that's all you can afford, then you've little choice. It should be fine.
Shadow, that system if fine, but I'd rather have 2GB of slightly cheaper ram, than 1GB of performance. If you're on a tight budget, more is better.
Jtrain.. you're right, it does make sense to buy a single SATA drive, as they're generally cheaper and on paper faster than IDE, plus you have the option of a RAID system... However, regarding loading times, and BF2, with my Maxtor 80GB IDE133 and 2GB Corsair VS ram, I'm usually one of the first people to spawn on 64 player maps...Comment

um..... Semprons are not THAT bad for gaming, but AMD Athlon 64 are much better budget processors, I in fact just built this pc last week and chose my processor wisely, look at the specs of it... £96 it was when I bought it, but look at the FSB !!! 2000M MHz, I think Intel's only go up to 533MHz, but I know for a FACT that when it comes to games, AMD outrule Intel. As soon as I get BF2 working, I will be able to run it on medium to max settings I would have thought with my GeForce 6 Series. Oh yea, nVIDIA in my opinion are much better. The 6800 LE series (256MB VERSION) is a decent AGP Card. And for gaming, a gig or more is rapid. 512MB hmmm....... Its well worth going that little bit further and doubling it to a gig. Trust me, you will notice a massive improvment

Geez, have you numbnuts ever heard of Sempron 64s?
I built my friend a Sempron 64 system with a S64 3000+. I then overclocked the Sempron to 2.8GHz and made it equal the performance of a FX-55. His processor is as good as mine.
