    Problems Running BF2 Demo

Okay. I haven't kept up to date with hardware for years, and can't locate the source of a problem I'm having.

I tried installing the BF2 demo in preparation for buying the game - which I'd heard was great - but after the first few screens (with all the gubbins about what's in the full game) it crashes to a resized desktop and tells me to reset my video settings. I fiddled with some of the video settings (switched between DirectX and OpenGL, nothing too deep in case I messed things up further), but to no avail.

I read the 'crashes to the desktop' thread, there's nothing there I haven't already tried. I searched for others but found nothing applicable. Apologies if I somehow missed the solution.

I have a 2.4GHz Intel Pentium 4, 512MB RAM and the video card is a MSI RX9250 (256MB I think). To the best of my knowledge the drivers are up-to-date.

I'm mostly curious about whether my video card (above) is compatible with the game. I wondered initially if it was a dodgy demo file, but after reading about all these 'crashing to desktop' issues I suppose it's probably hardware related, and a common problem.

I'd also like to ask if anyone knows where to download a known 100% good copy of the demo, and whether these problems will necessarily crop up with a full version of the game.

    All help appreciated.

I've never heard of that vid card, so who knows. There's a list of compatible vid cards, see if it's on the list. Either way, your computer will struggle to play BF2 on low settings. Sorry.

      That's a Radeon 9250.

Poeople cna play with that card, but it won't be pretty. There is a way, by changing around something in the ATi control center, or in the BIOS, but I couldn't be the one to tell you what

If the graphics card is PCI then it is unsupported by this game. I have only ever heard of the AGP version running BF2.

          Balls.

Thanks guys. I guess I need to look into a new card and more RAM anyway :)

The problem with the card is that its based on an older core, and although its a "9250" it is based off of the 8500 core which again isn't supported. Your best bet is honestly to salvage as much from the current computer as you can and just build a "new" computer.
