That is without a video card. If you only want 1GB of memory, knock off $100-$125 depending on what cheap brand you get. That's the base AMD 64 CPU, base mobo before you get into off brands, cheap everything else. Now add in another $400 for the GT. Now how much did you want to spend? Computers cost, ask my wife.
By the way, that was through MonarchComputer where I buy most of my stuff. They will put the mobo, cpu, and hsf and test it to make sure it works. So you don't need to install the cpu and hsf which is where most amateurs destroy something.

U don't need all that stuff (especially buying windows, just a waste of money), U can get a cheaper plastic case. You can get a 500w ANtec smartpower 2.0 (which is better) for cheaper than that modstream from OCZ. ANd also that mem is way to expensive, i could get 2 gigs for like 140 bucks. U don't need good memory unless u wanna oc, or if u want faster loading times. My setup below (minus the case, i had a older case at the time) all cost less than 950 bucks. U don't need to spend that much, especially since a 7800GT only costs 285 bucks on newegg.com, and the X800XL at the time was 300 bucks. U could definitely get a good comp without spending over 1000. U just need to know what is insignificant if ur only gonna be gaming (good memory, warranty, a OS which u prob already have, and of course soundcard, even though u didn't include that in ur list either).
I don't recommend buying a barebones that comes with a processor (if that's what you mean) and I don't recommend the 3200+ venice. That's what I have and although it's only a couple of months old, I plan to replace it as soon as possible.
However if you're trying to build a computer that will play BF2 on maximum settings: Good luck; regardless of how much money you have to spend. Some lower end systems run all high with no problems, some SLI setups still stutter. It's just not one of those games where you can say "as long as you get a process this speed or better, ram at this capacity or higher" etc. Also, don't waste your money on value ram. The timings suck.
Best bet is to buy someones used rig. I'll sell you mine with a modded case for... I dunno, $1,600 =P I'll even throw in free shipping
and if people with say a 6800 normal have max settings, whats the difference in gameplay between a 7800 gt and a 6800 normal?
Um, i doubt a 6800normal could hit max settings (all high, 1280x1024 and 4xaa and 8xaf). It could be close, but anyways, the difference if the 6800 could hit it would be the frames per second, u should get at least 25 fps, then, you're good enough. I don't think u can see the difference between 30fps and like 100 fps.
