It's debateable whether the 7800 is better than the X850XT.

No it's not, the 7800gt or gtx (256 or 512 version) will absolutley destroy anything ati makes below the x1800xl.

That's why it's called "debatable". The specs are almost identical. However, the 512 is obviously better. I'm talking about the 256.

Thats total BS. "Debatable" means that there is room for doubt and debate. In this case, there is NO room for neither doubt, nor debate. The 7800GT kills everything but ATI's top card. Only an ATi fanboy would say that the X1800XL was better than the 7800GT, and for someone to say that a POS like the X850XT (even PE) could rival the 7800GT...ridiculous.

Yeah, X850XT is owned by the 7800GT PERIOD. There is no debate at all. The only card ATI had above nvidia was teh X1800XT, and that ended up WAY too expensive and only like 5fps better than the 7800GTX 256mb. THen like a month later, the 512mb GTX came out, and then nvidia took the crown back. We all must face it, ATI is facing hard times, like nvidia did during the FX series. Let's all hope the next gen cards from ATI are better.

I'm just going by specs and what I read in these forums (that 7800's are having problems equal to ATI). I'm not an "ATI fanboy". Like I said, I'm planning on my next rig being nVidia. This is pretty much my only hobby, so I want to see what the "other side" is like. I really dont' care either way. Gaming is gaming. I really find it hard to believe that either is better than the other by any real large degree.

It's not worth it. I have an x800xl and I can run everything on high settings at 2x on a 16x10 resolution monitor for BF2. I have a dell 2005fpw. I was able to put everything on high when i got 2gigs of ram. My processor is an AMD 3200+

Save up for the Newer ATI cards like the x1800xl or the nvidia 7000 cards.

I wouldn't say the X850XT PE is a POS. It is the rival of the 6800 series, not the 7800. Big Difference.

even though i have an nvidia card i would like to see ATI kick Nvidias ass in with its x1600 cards

competition is always good for the coustomer if the 1800xt would of been slower than the 7800gtx 256mb there wouldnt of been a 512mb version of the gtx

i assure you none of us want to see NVIDIA have a monopoly over the graphics market

Yah, compitition is always good, cause then they push for better products with lower prices, i'd like to have a quote from the commercial Lending Tree: "When banks compete, you win!". Now just replace banks with graphics card manufacturers.

BS, my X1800 XL beats my friends 7800 GTX OCed to 492/1.27ghz and my colors and image quality are better... the 7800 GT beats the X850 no debate, but until you can explain why i keep up with my friends 7800 GTX (both AMD 64 3500+s w/ 1 gig of PC3200) in BF2 at 1600x1200 4x Adaptive (supersampling or whatever it is for nvidia) AA 16xAF when the XL(even an idiot could OC it high enough to kill the GT, just click automated clock utility and you'll run 575/1100 and its good enough to beat the GT) is clearly inferior to the GT and even if the FPS is lower in some cases (stock OCed a GT can't come close) the better image quality is worth the dollars, also id like to see Nvidias numbers when they turn AF quality to very high (which is what ATi's default is)
