    says vanilla 6800 is a 12 pipe, it comes fully open from factory, but says it can be ?softmodded?

      Yep... Only the AGP can. I had thought the same thing at one time untill I tried. it.
      From your article:

      thirdeye... I also have a dell and agree with those that say dont by RAM from them. at www.crucial.com there is a button to "Scan my system". Click that and it will tell you what you have (But you allready seem to know) as well as recommend other set ups that are compatable with your system.

      From that point you can shop around. While others have done well with newegg, I actually fell into a better deal buying it from Crucial. (They were having a sale/rebate offer going)
