i just purchased 2 (1GB) Memory Simms for a Dell Dimension 8400. Dell said that I could take the (2) 512 modules and keep them in the system for 3GB total? Any thoughts on if this will help or not?

Re: 3 GB Memory
For gaming, 3 GB wont show any improvements yet unless you have some other ram hungry program running. BF2, Windows and other tasks use less than 1.5GB....anything more is pretty useless.
Games are demanding more and more RAM....and when Longhorn comes out, 3GB will probably be needed. -
Re: 3 GB Memory
a new graphics card would give a huge improvment
that before you think of any other upgrade
x300 is low end
other than that you got a good system for bf2Comment

Re: 3 GB Memory
Always good to have the same make and model of memory. If your FSB differs between sticks, then you will have a conflict of bus speed and your comp will choose a most stable speed. Hope this helpsOriginally posted by ksmartyi just purchased 2 (1GB) Memory Simms for a Dell Dimension 8400. Dell said that I could take the (2) 512 modules and keep them in the system for 3GB total? Re: 3 GB Memory
windows xp home edition and profession editions only support 2 gb of memory for applications. so bf2 will not be benefiting from the extra memory.Originally posted by ksmartyi just purchased 2 (1GB) Memory Simms for a Dell Dimension 8400. maybe you would like to put the extra memory in another computer or upgrade to windows 2003 server or windows xp 64 bit. i would not recommend either for gamming. you can wait for windows next os release which should hopefully support 3 gb of memory for applications.Comment

Windows can see up to four gigs, BUT pagefile is included in this. If you set bios to see all four and turn off pagefile, you can use most of it. In this case you could set pagefile to 1024, and should be able to see most of it. And x64 is great for gaming.Comment

Re: 3 GB Memory
while it is true that windows xp can access up to 4 gb. windows xp can only use 2 gb for application space and up to 2 gb for system space. an application space cannot be 3 gb.Originally posted by Auto-ER-Not true.
