3 GB Memory

i just purchased 2 (1GB) Memory Simms for a Dell Dimension 8400. Dell said that I could take the (2) 512 modules and keep them in the system for 3GB total? Any thoughts on if this will help or not?

For gaming, 3 GB wont show any improvements yet unless you have some other ram hungry program running. BF2, Windows and other tasks use less than 1.5GB....anything more is pretty useless.

Games are demanding more and more RAM....and when Longhorn comes out, 3GB will probably be needed.

I currently have Card name: RADEON X300 Series
Display Memory: 128.0 MB
Dimension 8400
4 CPU 3.20GHz Is the problem in my graphics card then? 2GB will help for sure though correct?

I monitored roughly 850MB being used during loading and playing so 3G's wouldn't net you anymore performance unless you have multiple programs running in teh back ground, and even then they'd need to be consuming a lot to make it worthwhile.

With textures on high, and a lot of AA, BF2 can use more than 1.5gb.

a new graphics card would give a huge improvment
that before you think of any other upgrade

x300 is low end
other than that you got a good system for bf2

Always good to have the same make and model of memory. If your FSB differs between sticks, then you will have a conflict of bus speed and your comp will choose a most stable speed. Hope this helps

Plus it will depend on what priority you set your memory to, program or system cache.

windows xp home edition and profession editions only support 2 gb of memory for applications. so bf2 will not be benefiting from the extra memory.

maybe you would like to put the extra memory in another computer or upgrade to windows 2003 server or windows xp 64 bit. i would not recommend either for gamming. you can wait for windows next os release which should hopefully support 3 gb of memory for applications.

Not true.

Windows can see up to four gigs, BUT pagefile is included in this. If you set bios to see all four and turn off pagefile, you can use most of it. In this case you could set pagefile to 1024, and should be able to see most of it. And x64 is great for gaming.

while it is true that windows xp can access up to 4 gb. windows xp can only use 2 gb for application space and up to 2 gb for system space. an application space cannot be 3 gb.
