Just get the ram from a reputible manufacturer, like corsair, crucial, ocz, geil, mushkin, or kingston.

are there any specific models that are good? ive seen talk about like...Corsair memory for example, the Value select, or XMS, or pro series, any one of these better then the others for high requirement games liek BF2?

Go with the Value Corsair I'd say. its cheap and good.

i know i am new here but have been around the block for some time with computers and gaming. from my personal experience has when dealing with the manf when something goes wrong, i would go with ocz, since basically all the ram is pretty equal, it is just up support, either tech or warranty, and ocz can't be beat in that area (and yes i have dealt with mushkin, kingston and crucial).

for me the order would be:
                    ocz, mushkin, kingston, corsair/crucial

Haha, PNY makes RAM. Thats funny.

Definately Corsair ValueSelect, Kingston ValueRAM, or OCZ Value.

The XMS is faster, but you wont notice much difference. Unless you plan to overclock, of course. The Value series ain't very good for oc'ing, while the XMS series is.

op - is your system amd based or intel?

usually amd is not too hindered by memory bandwidth so if you have amd go with value even if you o/c as the divider won't hinder as much. with intel i would go a better ram with tighter timings that can handle the higher Vs and run 1:1 if you are going to o/c.
