Do you guys think 768 mb of ram can cut it? (smooth gameplay, no glitches- on all med graphics.)

Yes, he will be able to hit all med. Dont forget for all high, you need 1.5 - 2 gigs of RAM.
not necessarily, if he gets a 6600GT then maybe yes, but in general you can do just fine with 1 gig of RAM. However mine is DDR2 SDRAM @ 500MHz and his could be just plain DDR or worse. However making the assumption that you need 1.5-2 gigs to play smooth on high is wrong. I have 1 gig of RAM, play with 54 bots, with every setting video and audio maxed out, (except audio "ultra" high) with a "vanilla" 6800 and still obtain 45-85 fps. (With 54 bots remember). And the RAM that does come with your video card really does matter, also depending on what type of VRAM it is. Once your video RAM runs out it starts using your system RAM, and when you think you're low on your system RAM it would be wise to grab a card with greater VRAM.

whatsup Gman i think we sparred in pre game a while back on gulf of oman. as to your question i just got finished helping a friend set up his computer for BF2. he had a similar set up to yours.he started with a 6600 nvidia with 768mb of ram and was able to run the game on medium settings with good fps.he added some ram to up him to 1024mb and improved his loading time and in game performance a little but still could only manage medium settings even after over clocking a little. now he changed to a 6800 nvidia and has added another stick of ram to 1536mb and has over clocked but within very conservative limits and can run on high settings with respectable fps.now video cards are kinda like cars everyone seems to have a preference however know that BF2 is set up to run on nvidia video cards.with the advent of the 7800 you can get some excellent buys on both 6600(medium settings) and 6800(high settings) cards (tiger direct).check the detailed info. on each card because you can often get a lot more for just a few bucks.good luck maybe see you in game, majsmt-----

Hello and thanks for helping! The truth is I wouldn't mind playing on med setts. I mean does the game only look good in all high? If the 6600 gt can play on med setts smoothly with 768 mb of ram it would please me. What other cards should I be looking at as well? Any good buys?

          Thanks!

whatsup GMAN i checked tiger direct and nvidia 6600 vid cards start at just over 100 bucks for the plain vanilla variety and go up to about 190 bucks for the 6600gt. in general the more you can spend the better the detailed stats will be; check online at www.tigerdirect.com and click the card then click the detailed stats and compare.BF2 uses up loads of RAM (the smart guys say up to 1.4 gigs). so if you can add some later it will pay off . just runs better with less problems and smoother. however your card is the heart of good graphics and no component can overcome a poor performing card.start with the best card you can and work from there however there is no need to purchase one of the high end cards (example 7800) until you have a computer that will do it justice.I think a 6600gt will allow you to run the game on medium settings and maybe one or two segments on high (you can try) with acceptable fps.will be a good looking game very playable.get a good connection with the best ping you can it is just as important as all this other stuff combined.the lower the better.before you judge your setup run the game on a server that gives you a good low ping.i have a nvidia 7800gtx with a fast computer and 2 gigs of ram and the game is crappy with high pings. good luck and hope to see you in game if i hear of some deals i will let you know.-------majsmt---------
