Hello. I love battlefield 2 but cant get it to work for my computer. I read about issues that people were having and one of them was like mine. I have a Geforce 4 TI 4400. It's not compatible with BF2. I'm looking into buying a new card but I dont know in what direction I should be heading.

My specs are:
dell dimension 4550
768 mb of ram
geforce 4 ti 4400

I want to be able to run BF 2 smoothly, I dont need to be running on all high graphics, but Id like it to be smooth on medium. I've been looking into the radeon 9800 pro which I heard is a pretty good card.

Also,
I'm a little confused. Does a graphic card increase the speed as well? Lets say I got a Radeon 8500 (which is compatible with BF2) and I had a gig of ram. What would run better? 9800 pro radeon with 768 mb of ram or 8500 radeon with a gig of ram. Can the graphic card make a big speed difference. Whoever can help I'm very thankful. Thanks alot!

The GPU makes *all* the difference. Even a 9700 pro will play BF2 fine, just not on all high. I used to use a 9700 pro until I upgraded to a x800xl.
a 9800 pro with 768 Mb will run better. 786 Mb RAM

Yeah, i just need to know his gpu slot. As if he has a PCI slot it's limited to a 9800XT, but if it's AGP, i could reccomend him anything up to a 6800Ultra/X850XTPE (doubt he has the money for one though).

I believe its an AGP slot. I'm not too sure how much I want to spend. I can find good deals on ebay. I dont want some amazing card thats top of the line. I want something reliable, good and fast that can play games such as battlefield 2 with ease on med/high setts. Thanks for helping.

Um, i stilll need your budget, but it seems the 6600GT AGP is a good match for u, arond 150 bucks, can play BF2 on all high on 1024x768 with 2xaa with a good fps.

OK.. thanks but my other question is this. Will it still run pretty well with 768 mb of ram. Thats what im confused about. Can the graphic card itself boost up the speed alot? Or can i just get a decent compatible card and have a lot of ram? And for the 6600 gt is that 128 mb or 256 mb, I heard the memory on the card doesnt matter too much either. thanks.

U should prob get 1gb of ram and a good graphics card. And it really doesn't matter if you buy a vid card from a official company, or another company. Sapphire is hte most trusted reseller (besides ATI itself) of ATI, and MSI you should be able to trust. Yes, they make the same card, it's just they tend to give software bundles (gaming, and just helpful stuff).

He will not be able to get all high with a 6600gt and the amount of memory he has. Even with 1GB all high is unrealistic.

maybe some mediium settings, and this is on 1024x768, hey, i can reach all high with 6xaa and 16xaf on 1280x1024 resolution. And i only got 1gb of ram.

I had an overclocked 6600gt, 1GB ram, A64@2.5 and coudn't get all high.

Ok, in that case you're right, as you're a actual owner (or past owner) of a 6600GT. It should be able to hit al medium on 1024x768 and 2xaa right?

Yes, he will be able to hit all med. Dont forget for all high, you need 1.5 - 2 gigs of RAM.
