ok i have run the stndard drivers by ati
the omega tools
and last the warcats custom drivers and i can say the warcats rock the bf;sf played much more stable with less lag thank you warcat

but one thing is to make sure any traces of old drivers are gone get a driver cleaner as there are all kinds of left over registry entries and dll files that can conflict

everything is except one thing in bf2 for me with these drivers... AA. I cannot change the AA setting so i did something wrong during install or drivers do not like my comp.

Specs are: 2.6 p4, x800 xl 256 sapphire, 1024 16-bit RDRAM

hey, i was just wondering what your framerates in BF2 are, and what settings you use.

currently, im using a P4 2.6ghz processor, 1.5gigs of ram, and an AIW x800xt 256mb. the problem is, i only get an average of 20-30 FPS and sometimes lower when i run at lowend settings. I have every option that can be turned off, off, and most low, except for geometry (high), effects(medium), and textures(high).

im just wondering on what can be causing this poor porformance

Me and you have similar systems. This is where I start on figuring out which works best for my machine.

Try turning everything on high except:
"Textures" - turn it to low
"Texture Filtering" - turn it to low also.

Then work on turining stuff up from there. Use this as a reference point.

my texture filtering is already on low, i have tried textures on medium, but it didnt change much at all.

the funny thing is, that BF2 performs well running the first time after installation. after restarting, the performace drops ALOT.

You can install any 3rd party driver just by clicking setup.exe, but only if you have the Catalyst driver installed. If you have other 3rd party driver, you'll need to uninstall it before installing a new one .


Hey Xicer, if you play only BF2 you should try out XG WarCat 5.9 XT . If you play any OGL games or D3D games that came out recently, you should try out XG WarCat 5.11 XT .

all i can say is keep up the great work

it's great when people can go out on their own time and improve a product with no thought of profit

on a note to peorformance i dont know the actual frame rates involved but as for my ability to play well lets say last night i completley mobbed the opposing teams finishing in the top 5 all night with a few medals thrown in for good measure i dont think there was one time when i was killed by lag or screen lock up and not one crash untill the end at 6 am when after about 7 hours straight of playing i think my poor computer just got too tired

Hey, just wanted to say I just installed these drivers and had a quick go in single player SF. The drivers work well on my system, no problems or artifacts etc. Great job!

I'm not sure if it's given me a performance increase though...it feels a bit nicer but that might just be wishful thinking. I tried to turn on my FRAPS fps display but it doesn't work. Do your drivers prevent FRAPS from displaying it's big yellow number on top of the display?

which grafix drivers are best to use and how do i install them.

i see a couple of ppl have tried the warcat drivers and others really seem to be against even looking at them.

i ran an online spec tester thing and it told me that my pc should handle bf2 without problems.

it actually does, so is there any point in changing my graphics drivers?
theres the old saying "it it aint broke dont fix it".

flashredvw, that saying is wise. If you find your PCs performance in SF to be totally acceptable for you, then it probably isn't worth changing your drivers at all.

FRAPS is working fine now, I think I just messed up and closed it after I installed the drivers or something. The drivers work well, and although they aren't a miracle improvement there is a bit of extra performance, which is always good!

No one is forced to try out any drivers, as long as they don't want to .
I know that there are people that don't even look at the WarCats . Some of them are lying, because they like other drivers even if sometimes the WarCats are better. They find problems that have nothing to do with the driver. If there are people with driver problems, they come to TweaksRUs and we solved together the problem, faster than you think .

Agh, I forgot to install the .NET framework before installing CCC (fairly fresh install of XP, and I keep forgetting it's not whole) and had to fight it for half an hour. Now I've got it installed, but the CCC won't come up, and it tells me that it can't read my language files, and I should re-install. Re-install what exactly, it doesn't say. I'll give a full review of these drivers as soon as I get all this working again.

Edit: Ok, I got that fixed up. Just had to reinstall my ATI MMC 9.08. CCC still won't initiate, though. It won't start up on windows boot, it won't turn on when I click on it, and when I go to the "Wizard" in the programs menu, it tells me: "CATALYST Control Center Desktop Setup Wizard was unable to start. One possible reason is that the Runtime process is unavailable." And then I just click "OK."

Edit again: Well, what's really happening is that it IS turning on, and then it turns right off again. I found this out by watching the Task Manager while trying to enable it. This means that my .NET framework is terminating the CLI.exe file incorrectly. Not sure what to do about this... Tried all the version of .NET I can find. No luck. Guess I'll just have to try these without CCC.

Ah-HA! I got it running. I had to go into the task manager and shut down all ATI utilities and processes that weren't running under my user name, and not the system. Went to boot ATI CCC, and it made my screen flash once, messed around for about half a minute, and it finally loaded itself in and stayed on.

Ok, I've tested these things out a bit, and they're certainly quite good.

System: Athlon XP 3200+
MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum mobo
512 Corsair TwinX RAM (2-2-2-5) (It's other 512 mate blew out on me)
ATI Radeon 9600 AIW Pro

I first installed the CCC, with a little trouble, though that wasn't the fault of the drivers. Just a mistake on my part. (see my other post) I fired up Aquamark03 and ran a test. Decent enough, given my rig I suppose. I got about 28,800.

I then uninstalled those drivers, and loaded up the ones without CCC. Same results. Exactly the same, as a matter of fact.

Then I overclocked my 400/325, up to 465/345, no Vmod. I got over 32,000, and nearly 33,000. Better than I've ever gotten, even when I had all my RAM. And even when the CPU and RAM OC'ed. Typically, I got 30,000 - 31,000.

So although performance was on par with the standard drivers, they really showed how well they work when OC'ed.

I'll add some 3DMark05 results as soon as I get them. Even with my system OC'ed, I always get 2024 right on the nose. Never higher. We'll see if these drivers can help even my struggling system.

Ok, I got 1999 with my graphics card OCed, and 1840 without OC. The only reason I didn't get above the usual 2024, is because for these tests, my CPU and RAM are not OCed, so I get trashed results when the CPU tests are mixed in. On the actual graphics card tests, however, I noticed a 1-2 fps change from non-OCed. I got as much as 3-5 fps difference when I did OC, as compared to OCed with standard drivers. Admitedly, these spikes didn't last terribly long, but still remained a constant 2 fps ahead of the standards. So it turned out pretty good.

Now I'm on to real world testing. Since BF2 is out of order right now, thanks to that bad RAM, I'll have to use MW4 with all the settings jacked up to the max.
