I'll answer you questions 1 by 1 .
First, for a good installation, you should remove your previous driver before installing this one. Even if it is Official Catalyst driver . If you have the CCC up to date, you don't have to install the one from the WarCat driver .

Second, the black screen and lightning glitches can be cause by the flash mod . Flashing your video card's BIOS can result in such things . Take a look here : http://www.tweaksrus.com/forums/inde...showtopic=3203

Third question, yes there are Nvidia modded drivers . But i don't know wich one is the best for you, so you can ask my friends right here: http://www.tweaksrus.com/forums/inde...opic=764&st=10

Dunno mate I un-installed the XG WarCat 5[1].11 XT drivers and went back to the Cat 5.11's and everything is working as it should no bad glitches or blank screens - I guess their just not the drivers for me..

You can't decide that only by trying out only one driver. XG WarCats 5.9 XT proves to be a very good driver for BF2 . Ask Widkidone about it, he'll tell you .

For that video card you should go with XG WarCats 5.11 XT . If you get any problems with it, than XG WarCats 5.9 XT should do the trick .
Installing is simple, just download one of the drivers and you the installer .
For 5.9 XT, you'll have to extract it because i did not had an installer ready back than . Installing is simple, is just like installing any other ATI drivers.

Make sure you follow these steps my friend. because Windows is a Plug 'n Play OS and sometime you have to "force 3rd party drivers" onto your system. So just follow these instructions:
1. Uninstall video drivers and control Panel or CCC.
2. If you have Crap Cleaner run it and scan for issues and fix those issues (Crap Cleaner fixes the issues).
3. Roboot to Safe mode.
4. Run the Driver Cleaner Pro and the tool Cab Cleaner that is in the Driver Cleaner Pro.
5. Boot your system back to the desktop.
5. Now windows will tell you that there are some hardware found and would want to run a check on drivers. Windows is a plug & play Operating System so every time you add a new device it will give you a new hardware found prompt. To prevent this you must remove the hardware or let windows try to find the driver if you try to cancel it, it will just show up on the next boot so try to install it even if you don't have the drivers windows will just put it on your system without a driver. It won't hurt your system and you won't get the NEW HARDWARE FOUND PROMPT AGAIN.
** Simple Talk: So just let windows find the driver. Once it does that it will tell you no drivers found (that is what you want). Make are sure to check the box to where you do not want the prompt to show up on your next reboot. This will happen every time you uninstall old drivers.
6. Install the Warcats or what ever video drivers you want.
7. Reboot system
8. Run your driver cleaner and scan for issues. Fix the issues again. Then reboot again
9. Defrag your system.

Are you serious? You try to make it sound as if it's a simple operation. Just uninstall the REAL drivers and be sure to use 2 other pieces of software to make sure you REALLY wiped em out! Not only risky, but what a colossal PITA!

I'll stick to the fully supported and tested ATI Catalyst drivers...thanks. They work perfectly for me.

P.S. I'm fully expecting the usual "if you don't have anything positive to contribute, don't troll my thread" nonsense, so don't disappoint me.

Are you serious? You try to make it sound as if it's a simple operation. Just uninstall the REAL drivers and be sure to use 2 other pieces of software to make sure you REALLY wiped em out! Not only risky, but what a colossal PITA!

I'll stick to the fully supported and tested ATI Catalyst drivers...thanks. They work perfectly for me.

I've NEVER gone through all that crap to update drivers. I just hit the ATI web link within the CCC and it takes me to the driver site. Just click on the link for the new drivers and follow the prompts. The CCC will automatically detect and remove ALL previous drivers, during the install of the updated drivers.

I've NEVER had ANY issues using this process.

everything is except one thing in bf2 for me with these drivers... AA. I cannot change the AA setting so i did something wrong during install or drivers do not like my comp.

Specs are: 2.6 p4, x800 xl 256 sapphire, 1024 16-bit RDRAM

That thing never happened before . Make sure that you have uninstalled both the driver and the CCC before installing the WarCats .

Alright will do. And ty for the great drivers. I noticed a 2-3 frames up in cs source. Not much but its an improvement. Bf2 seems to run a little better but I cant turn on AA like I said so ill uninstall drivers do that cleaning and then try again :)

I'm a noob when it comes to using 3rd party drivers ... so bear with me

Is there anything special to using these other than uninstalling the old ones, running an .exe, rebooting and then done? I can't try this atm since I'm at work, but overall what performance increases can be found in this over the ATI Catalyst ones?

Also, how stable are these drivers anyhow? I have an X800 XL 256 MB AGP so I hope that these work (wasn't sure if it was just the XT line that these drivers modify)

All 3rd party drivers are northing more than a remix of previous drivers (taking the best of each) and a lot of hardcore tweaking in the registry & .inf files.


Bottom line, The remixes can offer on average a 5 FPS difference. The biggest reason to use them is that they actually use the cards like you & I so they're pretty good about making sure they work. Some of the remix authors should probably be hired by nVidia/ATi (coughDICEcough) to by their QA team.

You can install any 3rd party driver just by clicking setup.exe, but only if you have the Catalyst driver installed. If you have other 3rd party driver, you'll need to uninstall it before installing a new one .


Hey Xicer, if you play only BF2 you should try out XG WarCat 5.9 XT . If you play any OGL games or D3D games that came out recently, you should try out XG WarCat 5.11 XT .
